Probably the same way scientists today can find a bone fragment and come up with a full blown picture of what it looked like.
I read a book that suggested that Davinci stole everything from the Chinese who had visited in the 1400’s.
I recall somewhere seeing a study of what sorts things scare or make infants react when they see them even though they have no prior experience with these animals. The only thing I specifically remember getting a reaction are large birds of prey swooping with talons extended.

Recent archaeological findings show hat dinosaurs looked more like birds than lizards. Heck, birds ARE dinosaurs of the clade aves.
So this picture is of a lizard, dragon. While dinosaurs looked like giant moa or otherwise.
It makes sense to me.
People ask me- what about the stories about the knight slaying the fire breathing dragon to protect a fair maiden? Yes that indeed sounds like a myth, but I can see the dragon slaying being embellished by knights at the tavern. Also if a Knight and a fair maiden were to be missing for a time, well the dragon slaying to protect her is a pretty darn good explanation for them both being missing. That story would only work if there were actually a few dragons around though.
Did you actually refer to that as logic?
Not in Indian or sub Saharan African. While the Aztecs had a serpent god. The Chinese ‘dragons’ are more like snakes than what we would think of as dragons

He was extremely smart. That’s how. Have you ever looked through his notebook? It is public domain and free online. It’s around 7000 pages of his notes and observations.
There is meticulous detain you cannot begin to imagine. There are several pages about how to paint smoke. Did you know it isn’t black, it’s blue. And are you speaking of smoke with the sun behind it, or behind you? Or off to the side maybe?
He did the same thing with anatomy. And I mean the anatomy of everything that walked, crawled or flew. He was truly one of the most intelligent people who ever lived. He would be the one person who could draw a dinosaur from millions of years before from looking at a few bones.
No, he is taking a sketch Da Vinci made of a dragon. And claiming that this proves Da Vinci was wrong about what dinosaurs looked like. And that proves that if he could be so wrong, that all of us are also wrong who shake our heads at the 4500 year old earth.
Several leaps of faith in there. The first being that Da Vinci was actually attempting to accurately show us what a dinosaur looked like.

It looks like Asian drawings of dragons. Could be as simple as Leonardo copied Asian drawings.
Komodo dragons are alive and well.
