Mondale had other handicaps. I think there will be many who won’t be unhappy to see the top 5% get their taxes raised back somewhat. Also people who were hit by the limit on deduction of mortgage interest and state and local taxes who could no longer use their Schedule A might get a break if the are below the 5 or 10% top earner brackets. Especially if it means no cuts in Medicare or SS.
