Trump asserts executive privilege to block release of full, unredacted Mueller report

Executive privilege? why? It would be against a real Congressionally passed federal law for Barr to release the unredacted report. There is no EO necessary.

I have never set foot in a law school, but I was thinking of that very question. Within the currently redacted part, there is:
1) Grand jury material, which is illegal to make public, for good reason. Don't need executive privilege for that.
2) Other stuff, including material that the DOJ and Dems will continue to dispute.

If the DOJ's position was that the material in 1) makes what the Dems are demanding illegal, maybe a judge could rule that everything, or almost everything, in 2) cannot be redacted?

Also I imagine that both sides are getting ready for leaks, real or concocted.

Exec Privilege covers not just the report, but also all the underlying, supporting documentation. By putting everything under this purview, there is absolutely NOTHING Congress can do to get this data released.

This Democrat shit show is primarily designed to make Barr look like a partisan politician, instead of a qualified AG. That way, when he starts indicting people, they can get the media to report that it is because he is a partisan hack.

Another reason they want all the report content and supporting data is because it probably shows what Mueller discovered about the start of the BS Russian Collusion claims and they want to be prepared for what shoe is about to fall!

And finally, of course, so that they can suicide any of the material witnesses that refuse to be bought off!! This Exec Privilege protects everyone and everything from the evil clutches of the Democrats in Congress!

I don’t see why PDJT doesn’t explain why...to educate the public about why have to protect the innocent.

Executive privilege was plumbed fairly deeply in Nixon impeachment.

US v. Nixon, 418 U.S. 683 (1974)

Important to note that piercing the privilege depended on a need to get to the bottom of a criminal charge - an element missing from the Trump case. SCOTUS, in US v. Nixon, was deferential to privilege, and took only as much as the court needed for the court to do the court's duty.
