Sen. Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) announced Saturday that he will retire from the Senate at the end of his current term, capping off a 22-year career in Washington.
Enzi, 75, who currently serves as chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, made the announcement while speaking at city hall in Gillette, Wyo., where he once served as mayor.
"I have much to get done in the next year and a half," he said in prepared remarks released by his office.
"I want to be able to focus on budget reform to get control of our national debt," he said. "I dont want to be burdened with the distractions of a campaign. After this term I will find other ways to serve.

I don’t trust Liz as far as I could throw her father, but so it goes.
Enzi has a 66% score (a D) with Conservative Review and a 26% score (a D) with NumbersUSA.
Liz Cheney has a 53% score (an F) and 0% score (an F-), respectively, with those same two groups.
Neither is anything to write home about. Maybe Enzi could be replaced by a conservative, Wyoming?
You've been in office 22 years... you just want to start in this NOW???
That’s nothing. Creepy Joe Biden has been in DC for nearly 50 years and NOW he wants to fix things.
No , retire, go back to the plow, not K-Street.
IMHO they should retire just like airline pilots 65. BTW I am no spring chicken either.
I can think of 2 senators IMHO one dead, one who finally left who had declining issues. I can think of at least 2 in the house now I want sent for a full up neurological as their verbal pentameter reminds me of my mum when she was declining from Alz. I don't say this lightly as I am not an MD, but the Senate average age is what 70 something? This has got to change. It is good that Enzi is finally going to do something else, but this need to be a bigger movement in the Senate.
It is time they leave and enjoy walks on the beach, laps in pool, and trimming their award winning roses, anything but politics....
Since we haven’t had a budget in ten years, he probably has had an easy job.
Replacing one Bush League Republican with another one gets us nowhere.
We need people who stand with the citizens and the rule of law.
Only 75? Hes a kid by Senatorial standards.
Here we go again... the Deep Staters are going to handicap the next election, too. Game on!
Oh god not a Cheney.
So folks should find a DINO to run.
Why fight half a battle?
If there were a trivia question about who the U.S Senator from Wyoming is, I’d bet that 99% of Americans would not know the answer.
Enzi is one of my senators, Barrassos being the other. Haven’t been impressed with either of their conservative values.
Wyoming, any conservatives in the state?
Remember when Liz Cheney announced she was going to primary Enzi, a bunch of FReepers hailed her as the true conservative, outsider, anti-establishment, Tea Party savior. Then, after it was proven otherwise, they REFUSED to admit they were wrong and just pretended "someone" (whom they refused to say by name) was running against him that we "needed" to vote for that person anyway?
I sure do!
Makes me laugh now when FReepers backing some "true conservative" primary challenger say they will admit they backed the wrong horse if evidence proves them wrong.
