Venezuela's Failed Uprising: How a Deal to Oust Maduro Unraveled
Yahoo ^ | May 3, 2019

Maybe Venezuela’s most famous political prisoner, Leopoldo Lopez, was the thread that unraveled it all.

The overthrow that sputtered began when opposition lawmaker Juan Guaido tried to spark an uprising in Caracas on Tuesday, standing not only with masked soldiers who had defected but Lopez, his mentor and a cult figure in some circles. That dramatic turn sent a signal that this wasn’t mere posturing. To many watching, it seemed the opposition plan to replace President Nicolas Maduro was finally moving swiftly forward.

But it turns out that Lopez’s first appearance in public in years might actually have had the opposite effect and helped doom a deal two months in the making. It was a surprise to some in the Maduro regime who had, after talks with the opposition, agreed to take part in a handover of power. They consider Lopez an unreliable hothead and that contributed to their decision to pull out, some insiders said, along with the fact that they hadn’t been given any warning about the hastily organized event.

Either we allow the Russians and Chinese into our hemisphere or we don’t. But the second part of the Monroe Doctrine was that we would stay our of Europe and their business.

Seems like we reap what we sow.

I am no fan of Colin Powell, but a saying of his pertains here: If you break it, it’s yours.

VZ has a population of about 33 million. How many are protesting? The videos(which could be limited) show no more than a bigger antifa gathering in Portland, maybe 3,000(?).

Must not be bad enough yet to get a critical mass crowd out.

And if our issue is with the Russians and Chinese, we can take that up with them directly.

No reason to start what would be an oil and endless-war war on the ground in a country that would be more physically challenging than Afghanistan or Vietnam.

I would have had far more respect for him if he had simply resigned. The guy who works for a retarded baboon is a bigger fool than the baboon.

That’s a possibility but who would be his replacement?

Careful what you wish for. Juan Guaido likes to stand up before a crowd. Even in urban areas of Caracas.

I keep worrying he'll get capped. Kinda like Kennedy refusing a close topped limo in Dallas.

More like the Europeans would stick to their own business and we would leave existing colonies alone but they better not start trying to “accumulate” new colonies...and if they did crap that messed with us they could expect some “resistance”.

Maduro can not afford to let this guy live.
And he can’t afford to put him in some jail.
Any way ya look at it, it will be interesting.
I’d bet there are more than 100 russian soldiers there too

That’s why it’s going to take a “Pinochet” to get rid of Maduro.
