Lots of people assume the Russian Internet is something like the Chinese one, but, I assure you, it is not.

Forgive me for asking, but on what evidence is your "assurance" based?

I lived in Russia from May 2017 to August 2018, during which time I worked as a software architect under contract to several American companies (as well as in my own startup and on my own Ph.D. work in Computer Science). I’m very experienced with using the Russian segments of the Internet, including constructing and managing secure VPNs between RU and the USA.
