Bolton: Russia Will Ignore US on Venezuela 'at Their Own Cost'

The United States will not allow Russia to take over a Western Hemisphere country through "their surrogates, the Cubans," National Security Adviser John Bolton said Wednesday.

"That is why President [Donald] Trump [Tuesday] suggested that the Cubans don't get off the body politic in Venezuela they will [suffer] consequence of their own," Bolton told Fox News' "Fox & Friends." "It is a struggle by the people of Venezuela to get control of their government, but it is also a struggle to free themselves from the colonizers from Cuba."

There is no indication if or when Trump will speak directly with Russian President Vladimir Putin about the Venezuelan situation. After show anchor Brian Kilmeade asked Bolton if Trump had spoken to Putin, or if Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had spoken with his counterpart, Russian Secretary of State Sergey Lavrov, Bolton replied "a call, for Mike, is scheduled for [Wednesday]."

We are losing ground with sanctions while Cuba, Russia, and China puts troops in Venezuela.

Back when Russia was officially communist, officially atheist, we actually fought a proxy war against them - in Vietnam. Bolton was old enough to serve, but skipped out

Now, when Russia is post-communist and allows Christianity a place of honor, - unlike our “allies” the Sailidis, Bolton wants a war against Russia. It’s government is no more corrupt , and maybe less, than Mexico’s, but Bolton wants war.

One thing is consistent, though - you won’t see Bolton anywhere near a battlefield

Why did Trump hire this jacka-s?

Much of the GOP-e still thinks we are fighting the Cold War.
This is how we got dragged into Vietnam, Korea, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
The left knows if they can convince Trump to get involved in Venezuela, not only will they get refugees as voters, it will also doom Trump.

None of USA involvement in any of these conflicts ever helped the GOP.

We are losing ground with sanctions while Cuba, Russia, and China puts troops in Venezuela.

And, it seems entirely possible, sending operatives through our porous borders.

A quick skim of today's relevant FR threads indicates even here there are hand-wringers warning "Venezuela is not our fight!" Ok, when will it be our fight? When CRC is at both our northern and southern borders?

Ironically, these same hand-wringers would likely agree if there has been a recent unusual amount of criminal activity in their neighborhood that organized "neighborhood watches" are an effective way to reduce the threat to their own house.

Bolton wants a war against Russia.

Interesting. That's not the vibe I'm getting at all. Brinksmanship is part of diplomacy. Don't you get it?

I’m guessing Bolton is the one behind the regime change effort. If it succeeds, great, if it doesn’t, fire him.

Putin is an enemy

More than (communist ruler) Gorbachev was? If so, how and why? Specifics please. Was Reagan a dupe or a traitor to do summits and deals with Gorbachev?

Did you know that Russia’s income tax under Putin is a flat 10percent? That’s less than half of federal income tax in US, not to mention combined state income taxes. Are you afraid of Russia taking over the US and lowering your taxes?

The fight President Trump was elected to do is to protect our borders. By doing the regime change dance in Venezuela and more sanctions against Cuba, that’s less likely.

Immediately break diplomatic relations with Cuba, forbid the use of American dollars there, end tourism and trade from this country, let countries around the world know they can trade with us or with Cuba but not both, demand the return of American cop killers and plane hijackers still there and turn the screws any way we can. Do it now!

Put American troops in the Baltic countries permanently, very near the Russian border to get Putin’s attention. Start talking about Ukraine and Georgia joining NATO. Turn the screws on KGB Putin.

True, and Trump is going to do absolutely nothing.

Trump will not send our troops in harms way, you would think the Left would love him for that.

At least we wouldn’t be fighting for another middle eastern country that thinks of us as infidels. Besides Venezuela has more oil than Saudi Arabia. I’d rather be paying them than those who flew the 9/11 planes.
