Earlier this month, the Virginia men's basketball team took home the 2019 NCAA National Championship with a thrilling overtime win over Texas Tech, completing an incredible redemption story that began over a year ago with a loss to No. 16 seed UMBC.

Besides cementing themselves as a part of college basketball greatness, the championship also opened up the opportunity for the team to visit the White House to celebrate the accomplishment, something that has become a somewhat standard procedure for winning teams in all major sports.

However, on Friday Virginia announced that it would be declining that invitation, citing that it would be difficult to reunite the whole team as players move on to future endeavors.

This is absolutely BULLBLEEP! The President should refrain from inviting any team or individual athlete to the White House. If a team or an individual *wants* to come he/she/they should ask for an invitation.

Let teams who hate the duly elected President accept an invitation to Chappaqua.

Coach would probably have been fired if they accepted. Very radical school.

I think the only athletes who should ever be invited to th white house are those thst represent the country at the olympics. And if they dont want to come, fine.

Weve got more important things to do than coddle some atheletes egos.

Fifty years from now, when their short lived careers have been long forgotten, they’ll have one less story to dine on with the grandkids. Good!
