Pelham:" It means that most of us who were children in 1957 and before caught measles and that’s how we acquired our immunity.
Not the best way to do it."

Tree that !
But parents held supervised 'measles parties' to get childhood immunity,
and they did this with our (or theirs) best interests at heart.
They figured that it was best to get over the disease,
so that they didn't have to deal with it later, while in adulthood.

Jane Long :" What if you’re born AFTER 1957, but had two different types of measles (German? Red??) as a child.
Are you immune? "

I am not sure about immunity.
I know that WHO, and the CDC, recommend that you get a "booster shot"
in order to assure immunity for those who were born after 1957.

DoughtyOne :" The one that might worry me is the Chiken Pox.
I never had that, and it’s pretty tough on adults."

Yes, chicken pox virus, can reoccur in adulthood as "shingles",
an itchy, painful rash that can occur anywhere on the body.

Found this....

...People who have previously had measles are also considered immune to the disease, so they likely do not need a booster shot even if they were not vaccinated, Schaffner says. (The CDC presumes that anyone born before 1957 is immune to measles, since the virus was so common back then.) ....

As the article states, the only real immunity is to contract the disease as a child.

Yup. The parties parents used to have to get it all over with for all the kids at once were the most effective way for them to get lifetime immunity. Unfortunately, big pharma and the governemtn didn't make any money off that, so it had to be done away with.

Yep - the ones who decry anyone who questions a person who prefers not to have certain vaccinations will probably ignore it even though it took some years to discover a hole in the measles vax. I also hear that those who get the Chicken Pox vax are more likely to get Shingles...

Both.

Mumps and Chicken Pox too.

They were all out of the way by the time I was 6,

“Sadly, I ended up with the measels in the late 60s as I was allergic to the egg based vaccine.”

Your mom should have taken you to a measles party when you were 6!

You’re lucky to be alive and whole of mind.

Fox was part of the problem this morning, 4/30/19...they had a pro-vaccine “expert” on today...saying how preventable this outbreak could have been if we only just believed all in vaccines...

NO WHERE was it mentioned the influx of illegal aliens bring it across the border. UGH!!!

Illegals don't bring anything positive across except problems.

I say BS: The chicken pox vax went on the market in the mid-1980's, which means there is no one over the age of 35 - 40 who had the vax as a child. And yet the incidence of shingles for people 30 to 40 remains at about half the rate for people 40 to 50; less than a third of the rate for people 50 to 60; less than a quarter of people 60 to 70; and less than a fifth for people 70+. Speculation, like climate change is not science.

Hundreds of cases with a handful of deaths is not an epidemic. It's a factor people should consider when doing stuff like bringing infants too young for vaccines or for their bodies to handle really bad germs into risky environments.

One cannot help but wonder why this big push to get everyone vaccinated. What's going to happen when there's an experimental vaccine for the next really bad spread of disease? Will people be manipulated, then bullied, then forced to accept that, too?

Been hearing it from those in the nursing business and seeing first-hand cases....
Plus a set of studies indicates that those from teen to 44 years of age will likely increase for 30-50 years as a side result of the chicken pox vax being introduced because folks will have less contact with those infected and that contact helps the immune system continue to suppress shingles as the natural immunities from having the disease wane.

The abstract that you cite, which was published in 2006, concludes the following:

"Because of vaccination, chickenpox is now a rarity in the USA. In the UK vaccination is not done because introduction of a routine childhood vaccination might drive up the age at which those who are non‐immune get the illness (chickenpox tends to be more severe the older you are), and the incidence of shingles may increase. The United Kingdom is waiting to see what happens in countries where vaccination is routine."

The conclusions are speculative in that they are based upon mathematical models that "might" and "may" predict the future (similar to the climate change BS). Flash forward 13 years and the predicted results have yet to materialize in that there is no proven increase in the incidence of shingles as a result of the chicken pox vax. In other words, this is a theory based upon mathematical models that may or may not prove true. Indeed, an abstract published on April 24, 2019 concludes the following:

"Although the annual incidence of herpes zoster in adults has continued to increase, the rate of change of that increase decreased during both the one- and two-dose vaccination periods. The hypothesized increase in herpes zoster predicted from modelling of the exogenous boosting hypothesis was not observed."

“Those born before 1957 are considered universally immune, forever. “

Time will tell.

We have a very good family friend that is a virologist. It is their current opinion that if you go out in public right now you run an elevated risk of exposure. The outbreak is that wide spread. Getting on an airplane? Forget it, you are traveling with the world.

There’s a lot that’s speculative about vaccines...I’m not an “anti-vaxer” but they are coming out with a lot of vaccines and loading folks’ systems with the mixtures...there’s always a chance that some that may not be necessary will have unforeseen side effects....they already know that some folks don’t have a “suitable” reaction to some and are left unprotected, some do not protect as well as having had the actual disease does, and that there’s bugs out there that may have mutated enough that the vaccines aren’t as effective as once thought - giving folks a false sense of security. Nothing speculative about my last sentence.
There’s also credible reason to believe that some may have very bad reactions to some vaccines and we really don’t know enough to be definitive or to be able to screen them for the various vaccines....it’s easy to say, “I got mine and I’m fine so everyone should get theirs and if some end up badly compromised or dead, so be it...there’s always collateral damage when it comes to the common good.”
