The Pentagon is preparing to approve a loosening of rules that bar troops from interacting with migrants entering the United States, expanding the militarys involvement in President Trumps operation along the southern border.
Senior Defense Department officials have recommended that acting defense secretary Patrick Shanahan approve a new request from the Department of Homeland Security to provide military lawyers, cooks and drivers to assist with handling a surge of migrants along the southern border.
The move would require authorizing waivers for more than 300 troops to a long-standing policy prohibiting military personnel from coming into contact with migrants.

President Trump is doing what he promised.
I think its time to close up those 75 year old bases in Europe and bring our troops home to patrol our border.
We protect the borders of so many countries, but not ours with our troops.
With 74,000 deaths last year from drug overdoses and homicides at the Mexican - USA border we cannot afford
to keep our forces abroad.
Illegals cost us 150 billion per year in welfare, education,
medical expenses, and depress wages of American. They are bringing back illnesses once thought to be cured.
We should go into Mexico and take over a 50 mile buffer DMZ
to make sure our border is secure until we have that 30’ wall erected. Furthermore, if Cartel armed thugs challenge
our troops we should put them down like the dogs they are.
I certainly hope this actually happens.
Excellent.
Also, bring lots of flame throwers, napalm and gunships.
Agree:
Our forces need to be INSIDE Mexico, along the border.
It doesn’t mean being mean, using unnecessary force, but I think things have come to the unusual point at which we have to do something really unusual.
In fact, our forces *have* before gone all the way to Mexico City.
The USMC sings “From the halls of Montezuma” for a REASON and it would be good for the whole country (and theirs) to be reminded of it.
Surveillance/reconnaissance is one of the primary missions that the Military is now doing in support of Border Patrol(Along with hardening Ports of Entry, emplacing concertina and providing logistic support).
In many cases they are pulling shifts in Border Patrol command posts, watching the Border Patrol’s existing cameras and computer screens, to free up Border Patrol Officers for hands on Law Enforcement.
In other cases though, they are now bringing and using their own Military systems. The Military has long partnered in supporting BP with surveillance/reconnaissance technology, like Aerostat blimps, night vision and ground sensors.
Without a lot of fanfare, there has been a big technology program working within Homeland Security, as well as a big barrier program. Like the barrier program, the first couple of years were spent analyzing, planning and preparing; and the big rollouts are starting this year.
I think that NORTHCOM/NORAD should get a permanent border monitoring mission, funded in the long term budget. Get some dedicated satellite assets up.
Trump's DHS released 7,000 Illegal Invaders into our country in a 5 day span. I would not exactly call that "winning."
DHS Releases 7K Illegal Aliens into U.S. in Five Days; 1.4K Released Every Day
Wanna stop this crap? Anyone attempting to cross our borders illegal should be shot. After a few pukes eat dirt, the invasion will stop.
That approach would end up saving many lives.
Same old story for two years... The results? Massive increases in the number of migrant invaders getting into the country...
With all these new demoncrat voters, the 2020 election is no longer a cake-walk...
What does the name “National Guard” mean? It means local soldiers on the ground defending their piece of our nation which is also their home. What is the primary purpose of the military? To defend against invasion.
Any further “wall money” required is already there in the military budget so screw you, Democrats. One definition of treason is any action preventing the President from fulfilling his duty to defend our nation.
