I don’t think we ought to care who sells the beer or even announces the game as long as he or she does a good job. That’s just sardonic. But referees should match the gender of the game players.

If the point of a sport is just to be a stag event as such, it seems to miss the point. It should be about contests for excellence, among fairly matched contenders.

Well...most sports broadcasters never played the game they are calling. Some of them did play, yes. But most never did.
