Political newcomer and television comedian Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday declared victory in Ukraine's presidential elections after exit polls showed he was on track for a landslide win against incumbent and chocolate magnate Petro Poroshenko.
"We did it together. Thanks to everyone! Now there will be no pathetic speeches, I just want to say -- thank you," Zelensky said amongst loud cheers from a crowd of supporters.
Projections put Zelensky at 73.2%, giving him a significant lead over Poroshenko, who has won just 25.3%, according to an exit poll published by Ukinform.
Shortly after the exit poll, Poroshenko conceded defeat.
Zelensky's bid for the presidency was initially dismissed as a protest vote and a joke. The actor found fame in his role in the Ukrainian television series "Servant of the People" as a down-and-out schoolteacher who unexpectedly becomes President of Ukraine after becoming famous for an anti-corruption rant that went viral on social media.

Countdown until someone in the Clintonista Media blames Russia for interfering in the Ukraine Elections?
Ukraine is soooooo corrupt, this is a pleasure to watch.
Congratulations Volodymyr Zelensky! It’s too bad our government comedians are all propagandists for the ‘rats.
We know politicians are clowns. At least the Ukrainians are open about it.
So, does he gives speeches or stand up?
I hope he can stay alive. Politics is rough and tumble in Ukraine.
Just wait until the old guard starts treating him like they’ve done with Trump.
Idiots at CNN cant even translate right: pathetic speeches - should be grand speeches...
‘Biden may reconsider’. Uh, oh.

I've heard the expression "Art imitates life" but this is wild.
Ukraine Elects Jewish President Volodymyr Zelensky
He didn't emphasize it, because there is a LOT of anti-Semitism there, but it is true.
He discussed it with his trademark, self-effacing humor:
Zelenskys mother Rima is Jewish, a fact that he acknowledges but does not emphasize in media interviews. Speaking with French Jewish philosopher Bernard-Henri Levy earlier this month in the weekly Le Point, Zelensky said, The fact that I am Jewish barely makes 20 in my long list of faults.
