U.S. Soldiers Are Disarmed, Held At Gunpoint By Mexican Troops In Texas

Clint, TX - Two U.S. soldiers were held at gunpoint and disarmed by Mexican troops on American soil on April 19.

CNN reported that five to six Mexican military personnel questioned the two U.S. soldiers who were conducting border support operations.

A U.S. Northern Command statement confirmed that the U.S. soldiers were "appropriately in US territory" during the encounter, according to CNN.

The Mexican soldiers not only pointed their weapons at the U.S. troops, but also removed a soldier’s sidearm and returned it to the unmarked U.S. Customs and Border Protection vehicle, U.S. military officials said.

CNN reported that the Mexican troops were armed with assault rifles. U.S. officials said the U.S. soldiers allowed the weapon to be taken in an effort to de-escalate the “potential volatile situation.”

"Throughout the incident, the US soldiers followed all established procedures and protocols," Northern Command said, according to CNN.

The encounter happened south of the border fence in the area but north of the Rio Grande, according to U.S. officials.

The river in that area has brush-filled and dried-out riverbed which makes it "very easy" for people to be confused as to what side of the border they are on.

One of the American soldiers spoke Spanish and explained the situation to the Mexican troops before the Mexican soldiers left in their unmarked pickup.

An inquiry by U.S. officials found that the Mexican military members thought the U.S. soldiers were in Mexico, according to the U.S. Northern Command.

"Though they were south of the border fence, US soldiers remained in US territory, north of the actual border," the statement said, according to CNN. The statement added that "after a brief discussion between the soldiers from the two nations, the Mexican military members departed the area."

President Donald Trump has ordered the military to support border security and the U.S. has 3,000 active duty troops and 2,000 National Guard troops in the southern border, CNN reported.

Wanna bet? The Mexican army comes across regularly. A few year ago, there was a quiet stink when a convoy drove across a bridge spanning the Rio Grande River and they played like they didn’t know they were in the US.

unacceptable - their CO needs to be fired.

Unacceptable? Yes! Unacceptable that these Third World banditos would do that. But as for firing the CO...I'm not so sure.

But one thing I *am* sure of is that our Secretary of Defense should personally contact their Minister of Defense and make it clear that the next time something like that happens things won't go well for their banditos!

how about General Abrams? He's near by.

I did my BCT at Fort Knox long, long ago.I must say that it's impressive to see (and hear) a column of tanks pass by.That, and seeing the gold depository (from a distance) are two of my clearest memories of those wonderful, carefree days!

Sounds like fake news, real US soldiers don’t surrender their weapons.

They do if their orders require it.It seems distinctly possible that someone up the chain of command anticipated this as a possibility and issued standing orders on how to handle it.

However, having attained the lofty rank of SP5 I certainly could be wrong.

About 40 miles east in Ft Hancock (Hudspeth county) all the LEOs and several of the citizens carry full auto weapons for just this reason. They were invaded by the Mexican army running security for a drug shipment.

The only comment he might have, would be to blame Mexican possession of assault rifles on “lax US gun laws”.

I say: close the Mexican soldier loophole by building the wall.

Do our people have ammo? Or are they simply carrying weapons with no ammo? Why wasn’t our guys better armed than a simple weapon with one guy? Or did I misread that? We are also up against organized Mexican drug cartels. They are heavily armed. Would our guy with a pistol stand up against an AK47 or AR15?? I have seen those Drug, Inc. shows on TV, with the drug thug armed with his AK with confirmed 40+ kills with it. He rode shotgun on drug runs. Those are who we are up against. Murdering drug thugs. Our people need to be as heavily armed.

None of us were there and there’s nothing about the soldiers’ take on this, let’s think about that before demanding punishments. I’d be a lot more upset if the soldiers were arrested, taken to a Mexican jail, and it took a week of negotiations to get them back. That didn’t happen, the Mexican troops talked to them and then left.
