Listen: Did Radio Host Record Feds Spying on Donald Trump?

On Saturday, conservative talk radio host Don Smith replayed an interview he conducted with then-Republican frontrunner Donald Trump in November 2015. The roughly 12-minute long interview was repeatedly interrupted by a strange static humming, and other noises.

“During this interview there was something going on. I’ve never experienced this before,” Mr. Smith said on air Saturday. “I’ve done thousands of interviews, and I have never experienced this before. You could hear something.”

“Something was going on.”

The host of the namesake Don Smith Show said he initially thought the campaign was taping the interview for posterity. The media had repeatedly taken the GOP frontrunner out of context, seemingly on a daily basis.

“But all of a sudden, then candidate Trump brings it up. He hears it,” Smith added. “Now, on my line, the way I’m doing pre-tapes there’s no way that somebody else could buzz in on the line. So, I knew that it was not on my end. But he brings this up and he could hear it, too.”

That’s more evident if you listen to the reactions from then-candidate Donald Trump and the host at the time in the archived interview (also below). Faint static humming begins and fades immediately after the first question, before returning on multiple occasions.

“You could actually hear breathing at one point,” Mr. Smith continued. “You could hear all these things. And I’m going, ‘What in the heck is going on here?'”

Now-President Trump was sitting at his desk at Trump Tower during the interview, which we now know to have been the target of surveillance.

I think the technology has gone a bit beyond what Robert Stack used to do in The Untouchables.

Duh. They only started the Russia Russia Russia dossier nonsense to cover their tracks which started a lot earlier than June 2016.

That not how it works any more. Thedays of sneakingin and “tapping” a line are over. With the advent of digital phones, you simply send the incoming signal to another “extension.” We do this with digital recording systems every day. The signal going to the “phone” on the desk is exactly the same as it would be without the recorder.

Digital phones? Apparently they were both on land lines.
At any rate Retired Major General Paul Vallely thought it was credible.

Yeah...landline line phones are almost ALL digital these days.

Major agenerals know a lot of stuff. I doubt he knows more about telecom systems and how to record calls than I. It’s what I’ve done for 30 of the past forty years.

OK.

What is your explanation for the buzzes, breathing and subdued voices in the background? How does that come through on this pure digital interface you’re describing?

The radio station has a shitty phone system.

And I like the snotty attitude. Don’t know what you did for a living, but I am sure I wouldn’t give you attitude about it. Even if it was screwing on lug nuts in a studebaker factory.

And I like the snotty attitude.

All I did was ask you a question. You certainly answered it with that nonsense though.

Are you assumeing voip, pots or some form of digital pbx?..(be curious what kind of phone systems the trump tower uses..and how they connect to the pstn)

What you are speaking is port mirroring of the digital data stream on the switch

To have it heard it would be on the analogy not digital segmentation or could be some other analog rf signal..

Ive had digital lines (cat 5 ethernet) act as an antenna and pick up analog rf signals

Well, from the sound it sounds like a crappy handset with a tape recorder pickup. Every time something moves on the desk, that wire is going to move and cause static. Every time someone moves a chair or talks in the studio next to them, it’s going to get picked up.

Is that better?

And yes, you asked a question dripping with sarcasm. What do you know about recording phone calls off from a PBX? Please enlighten us. We all want to know.

Maybe it was the Brits? Or RUSSIANS. Or Kiwis. Or Angie. Or Somali-Palestinian-PuertoRicans.

Just think of all the ways to get a FISA warrant through on the RATS in the upcoming elections.
