MONTREAL The return of conservatives to power in oil-rich Alberta adds another province to a growing bloc of opposition to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada and his government.
Incomplete returns late Tuesday night showed the United Conservative Party led by Jason Kenney, a former Conservative federal cabinet minister, leading the New Democratic Party under Rachel Notley by a substantial margin.
While neither Mr. Trudeau nor his Liberal Party has ever been particularly popular in Alberta, the loss of a left-of-center ally is not welcome news for him six months before the federal election. Mr. Trudeau has been weakened by allegations from a former attorney general that he improperly intervened in a criminal case.
Much of Mr. Kenneys campaign fed on economic and political frustration in the province, which has been afflicted by job losses in the energy industry since the global collapse of oil prices more than four years ago.
Throughout the campaign, Mr. Kenney said that his first priority if elected would be canceling Albertas carbon tax, defying a key element of Mr. Trudeaus plan for mitigating climate change. But if he does so, the move will be largely symbolic, as the federal government has said it would swiftly impose its own carbon price on Alberta in response.
Mr. Kenney arrived for his victory speech in Calgary in the blue, full-size pickup truck blue is his partys color that became a symbol of his campaign.
In his speech, Mr. Kenney blamed Mr. Trudeaus government for exacerbating Albertas economic slump.
We Canadians have been had, he said to loud cheering. In Ottawa we have a federal government that has made a bad situation much worse.
Mr. Kenney called the five provinces, including Alberta, that oppose Mr. Trudeaus national carbon pricing plan

TRUMP EFFECT !
We are not angry and frustrated over low oil prices. We are pissed off because Truedumb arbitrarily cancelled two pipelines that were ready to into the ground, with contracts signed and pipelines bought and federal approval obtained.
He did this to benefit the Quebec government and Saudi oil and Paul Martin shiplines.
No, Albertans are not Californians. The Federal liberals are trying to financially break Alberta in order to semi-nationalize its oil fields.
No problem Trudeau has tons of Weed ,LOL
The Alberta oil field downturn has affected my business directly down here in Tennessee. We do a lot of business via Calgary
THANK YOU Alberta!!!
Remember to thank our Prime Monster.
That little princess Trudeau is the exact same piece of shit his father was!
This will raise some eyebrows.
Anyone ever noticed that the Fake News only uses the word foe to apply to the opponent of someone they like? (Ie. the Conservative opponent of a liberal is a foe). NEVER the other way around.
Technically, foe should just be synonymous with opponent. So why does the Fake News ONLY apply the word foe to Conservatives.
My guess is they did some study years ago and determined that foe engenders negative feelings in some percentage of the sheeple. Henceforth, they only used the word to apply to Conservatives.
Anyone else notice this phenomenon?
“That little princess Trudeau is the exact same piece of shit his father was!”
Just like the execrable Obama. Has NWT, Yukon, and Manitoba expressed their manifest pissedoffedness too?
My wife’s cousin lives in Edmonton. I hope it gets better there and here in the states. We can only hope.
Sacramento has its boot heel on the water, the oil, and the timber. Sounds similar to Alberta.
I wish the prairie provinces would join the Union, we could use more conservatives and they would bring untold riches in agriculture and natural resources.
Alberta’s Child
Howling at that old Alberta Moon!!
Except it isn’t Alberta putting it’s boot on its oil. It is the federal government, Quebec government, and BC governments putting their boots on Alberta oil.
It is also Soros, because both Horgan and the Quebec premier are receiving payments from him.
The dancing poofter is not about to let the fraudulent Carbon Tax go.
Fidel?
