March 2019 NICS Background Checks Second Highest on Record

In a dramatic reversal of numbers, the March 2019 National Instand background Check System (NICS) check numbers are the second highest March on record, only a few percent less than the record breaking numbers in March of 2018.  February numbers had shown a dramatic downturn for NICS checks.

The Trump era NICS continue to be at historically high levels, but lower than during the rush to buy guns during the last two years of the Obama administration. These numbers do not translate directly into gun sales. A large part of the numbers are from NICS checks done for carry permits and carry permit rechecks.

In March of 2018, the total number of NICS checks were 2,767,699. Of those, 1,249,917 were permit and permit rechecks, leaving 1,517,782 checks for other purposes, mostly gun sales.

Trump Era NICS Backround Check hit new All time Record for MarchMarch of 2018, the total number of NICS checks were 2,767,699.

In March of 2019, the total number of NICS checks were 2,644,851. Of those 1,287,813 were permit and permit rechecks, leaving 1,357,038 for other purposes.

Other than for permits and permit rechecks, 2019 was 90% of 2018 numbers.

It is of interest that the number of permit checks has dropped while the permit rechecks have risen. In 2018, the permit checks were 1,047,107. In 2019, 860,891, dropping by 186 thousand. Permit rechecks, however, increased from 202,807 to 426,922, an increase of 224 thousand.

That one week reprieve on hi-cap magazines in California resulted in a huge run with millions sold. The NICS numbers are another indicator that people know that gun grabbers are on the offensive more so now than ever. Gun grabbers think they can create a Red Flag America and confiscate guns one household at a time. So people continue to buy.

So no Trump Slump?
The more the Left is yanking at the Second Amendment, the more people realize how important it is to keep.
Both 1A and 2A are ultimately "use it or lose it" deals.

I think that Trump has prices low, so buying continues.
