The White House Correspondents' dinner, enthusiastically called “nerd prom” for years by Washington journalists looking for champagne and selfies, is sobering up, with next week's gala drawing few celebrities, no president, and now no press secretary.
As if to rub in the lost luster of the event, instead of the usual comedian, a historian will serve as the "entertainment."
President Trump, snubbing the dinner a third time to host a rally, diverted top aides from the gala, while a faction within the White House Correspondents’ Association nixed the comedy routine, resulting in the least glitzy gathering in decades.
C-SPAN hasn't even scheduled coverage of the April 27 event.

I laugh at how they call it the nerd prom. A futile attempt at self flattery, smugly pretending they are the misunderstood smart ones, the intellectuals.
I bet there isn’t a single math degree holder in attendance, not a single engineer or any sort. They are not the nerds with soft easy social science degrees IF they have one at all.

After the disaster of the idiot “comedian” last year, they have a lot of work to do, if they want to present a positive public image of White House reporters.
All these creeps have to look forward to is fewer of them as newspapers, networks go out of business replaced by blogs.
And of course 6 more years of Trump as President.

Having filthy mouthed hated filled Lefty “comedians” tear down the office of the Presidency isn’t what I would call an event any self respecting “journalist” would attend.
Frankly I always thought this dinner was indicative of a real problem. The press think they are part of the elites, they think they are important celebrities and peers of the leaders. They are not. They do not make policy but they think they can and should. That’s the fundamental problem with so-called journalism today.
He is unlikely to go to a dinner where food is PREPARED by people who hate him.
Abortion jokes may well be popular with the media in the New York/Washington axis. But the reaction to last year’s idiot “comedian” shows that they took things way too far with their abortion joke routine.
Tell that to Gayle King, on the cover of TIME for being one of 100 "most influential". And here I thought she just read a teleprompter.
Always thought of their use of nerds was not the intellectuals, but the misfits that had no talents and could not relate to any normal human being.
They are not journalists. They are propagandists. Why be hypocritical? A decent person would be more inclined to break their necks than to break bread with them.
