I understand if one is catholic or into historical sites this would be more of a loss because of their personal attachment of what it means to them.

It is hard to overestimate the loss to the West if one is an educated person. This loss is identical regardless of whether one is Catholic, Protestant, "into historical sites" or anything else. It's not "personal attachment" that makes it obvious that this is terrible loss, it's is historical literacy.

Sadly, those traits are less and less common in our society.
