They will delay it forever until they turn Brexit to dust. The only way the people can get Brexit is revolutionary style.

It appears that Macron was isolated at the EU summit. He wanted the UK out as soon as possible, everybody else was arguing for a longer extension. October is a compromise. Macron says an immediate no-deal Brexit is preferable to the damage to the EU (’importing a British political problem to the EU’) which would be caused by continuing uncertainty.

Spent a year in London and left just before Brexit...haven’t been back but my sense from is that there is actually a growing silent majority in favor...the Conservatives just need actual leadership.

And if they can’t pull it off, France may actually beat them to it once Macron is out and Marion Marechal (Marine Le Pen’s gorgeously charismatic, sharp, Steve Bannon-supported niece) wins the next election. ‘Frexit’ may be the cover story in a few years time.

This is intolerable! Hopefully, Nigel Farage and the other Euroscecptics can destroy the EU from within while the Brexiteers work on ousting Europhile MPs in Londonstain.

Thatcher was part of the problem, frankly.

Years after leaving office, she declared the EU unreformable, corrupt, socialist etc. but she never advocated withdrawl. Everything she later said about the EU was obvious in the mid 1980’s but she never did anything about it.

While in office she appeased pro europe scumbags in the Conservative Party while detroying her political capital on second tier issues like the Community charge.

They strongly voted in favor of leaving the EU.

The Prime Minister then began negotiating with the rest of the EU on the term so f Brittain exiting?

WHY? Just announce you are pulling out on X date. Disconnect your monetary system and ramp up your own currency production... and then leave. Any nation in the EU that wishes to trade with you - they can negotiate their own “deal”

IT really is THAT simple. But when politicians (especially those who don’t REALLY want to do the will of their voters get involved... well - we have this situation.

There are a lot of details about a no deal brexit that are hard breaks. A remilitlarized border between northern ireland and the republic of ireland is the point of contention that is holding up the whole deal. The Democratic Unionist Party of Northern Ireland - a center right party - has 12 mp’s that are the lifeline that keeps May in power and they say no to the deal May is offering. May wants to move the EU customs border to include Northern Ireland so the irish border problem is no longer a problem for the republic of Ireland but effectively moves Northern Ireland out of the UK tradewise. Northern Ireland does not want to be thrown to the EU wolves and sliced off of the UK like a rotten appendage. Lots of drama about the reiginiting of the warzone in Northern Ireland.

I do too. But this thing is not over.

A lot of elite establishment misjudgements had to happen to get this close.

They never would have had a referendum in the first place if they thought there was any chance of an exit vote.

If May hadn’t blown the election and become dependent on the DUP, they would have agreed to a fake “Brexit” that would have betrayed Ulster, and acted like a Star Wars tractor beam to pull Britain back into the EU.

We need the Hand of Providence to get the UK clean away from the EU. It has got the UK this close, and if it is meant to be, they will make it the full distance.

With the French gilets jaunes protest set to enter its 22nd weekend, I think Macron senses that the EU has a bigger problem than brexit.

That may be but I feel awful for the British people.

I live in Spain, where a huge number of British expats have retired to. The next town over from ours, Nerja, is the largest community of British not in Britain. Most of them are Remainers who would sell out their country in a heartbeat in order not to lose their "free stuff" like reimbursement for medical treatment. Winston Churchill would be ashamed to call these people his fellow countrymen.

Just as a matter of perspective, I pay for medical for my wife and myself. It is about 1800 Euros per year. That's how cheaply these expats can be bought off.

Why is this delay called a humiliation for May? She has managed to stall BREXIT for 2 years already, and hopes to do so indefinitely. She is succeeding.

Thatcher was part of the problem, frankly.

Few people remember that it was Thatcher who virtually invented the single European market for goods and services. Before her intervention, the Common Market was restricted to goods, not services, and not even all categories of goods. Thatcher persuaded an initially reluctant EEC (as it then was) to accept the universal single market, using the civil servant Arthur Cockroft as her negotiator.

It was just one element in her grand scheme to turn the UK from a manufacturing-based to a services-based economy.
