The Never-Ending Threat of Civil War
American Thinker ^ | April 6, 2019 | E.M. Cadwaladr

Posted on 04/06/2019 3:18:34 PM PDT by ProtectOurFreedom

We and the Left are now two nations within one country. This is undeniable. We are now so different that we cannot even agree on what a country is, or on the merits of a country having a border. The number of people who still say, "I just don't care about politics" dwindles. It is still possible to hate both sides — but it is getting hard to be indifferent and still be breathing. How many people can just take or leave infanticide? How many people are entirely flexible about the idea of the government having authority over anything and everything, to experimenting with our fundamental demographics, or to giving up fossil fuels cold turkey? The abyss looms large beneath us.

We conservatives have let this ideological cancer metastasize for far too long for its excision to be simple or painless. For too long, we have been patient with outrages we should have fought to reverse. We have let our opponents secede incrementally from us for decades. We have been tolerant and patient...we have given up our civil society, our political representation, and our freedoms one by one. Our maladies won't be fixed by delicate adjustments now...Either the cancer wins, and kills us all, or we defeat it — and we accept the scars. Let us not pretend they would not be hideous scars. And let us not pretend it would not be a deeply barbarous and bitter surgery.

The titanic nations of the Left and right are rising en masse — flexing their muscles and snorting menacingly at one another. We cannot get out of their way. There is no safe part of the country, nor any genuinely safe haven left in any other country. This is a global conflict. We have run out of frontiers.

Oh please.

You have an evil cabal at the top that is being exposed.

They control an evil media that is also exposed and
increasingly unable to protect them.

They work together to try to make the minority of unhinged
low IQ types seem like half the country.

They are not half the country.

But they ARE starting to piss the rest of us off, and that
will not help them keep their power.

1529 was the first attempt by the Ottoman Empire to capture Vienna.

I think it was mostly “siege,” rather than a “battle.”

Socialism/Communism have been beavering away at the West and the US since 1917. Just because the old Soviet Union fell and the Berlin Wall came down doesn’t mean those ideologues committed to destroying the West stopped their work.

Build more prisons.

And gibbets. Don't forget gibbets. They're not just for Thanksgiving.

Oh, I totally agree with this.

That’s why I bailed and are living in a free country elsewhere. Free of liberals. Free of progressives. Free of SWJ activists. Free of trans-gendered elephant sized women.

You might not like that I bailed. You might not like where I moved to. But, you at least understand my reasons for doing so.

“What would such a conflict look like with no clear geographical or physical boundaries between the parties? “

A police state putting down a rebellion.

“What would such a conflict look like with no clear geographical or physical boundaries between the parties?”

The plot line of “Unintended Consequences” is the most likely scenario. Each person decides on the target of their choice & removes them as they can. At least that would be the case on the conservative side. The lefties would probably be a little less selective in their violence.

That’s correct...Even quite a bit of the people who sometimes vote democrat are not socialists...

The MSM just makes more noise than do conservatives...

The actual numbers might be surprising....

Spanish Civil War, the countryside versus the cities. It was ugly.

The colleges and universities (and K-12), the media/entertainment, the cities, the Deep State (at the national, state and local level), the legal system, the churches (particularly the Black churches that preach Liberation Theology) , et al., are filled to the brim with people over 25 who believe in socialism/communism (and many support it even if they don't consciously know it by its names).

They have been brainwashed.

Socialism/communism may be a con game that doesn't work, but these people believe in it...they have been conditioned to believe it works.

Many of our neighbors are counted among the enemy.

Small towns are loaded with socialist/communist sympathizers just as many conservatives/patriots live in cities.

I haven’t read a lot about the Spanish Civil War. Guess I’ll have to do some research...

As I keep pointing out, Secession is the only possible peaceful resolution to the growing impasse.

Yes, some states will break up. For example, in my native Florida I cannot imagine most of the rest of the state lining up with Greater Miami on pretty much anything. The same is true in Illinois with Chicago, in New York state with New York City, in Virginia with Occupied Northern Virginia, and there are similar examples in other states.

The Northeast stretching down to Baltimore and Washington DC, Left Coast, Hawaii and a few select cities like Chicago and Miami to one side, the rest of the country to the other. Some people will need to pick up and move to their preferred side. That can be done in a completely peaceful and orderly fashion. Whatever difficulties would arise, they are much better than the alternative. Because I cannot see either “tribe” accepting rule by the other.

“Does anybody see a way out of this?"

The only way to avoid a long and bloody civil war is for President Trump to go full Pinochet. With the backing of the military, dissolve Congress. Then give free helicopter rides to about 50,000 communists.

The alternative is several million dead.

Alberta's Child:

One Freeper astutely suggested that it would look a lot like the Spanish Civil War of the 1930s. Comparisons to the American Civil War are meaningless. Our "civil war" wasn't really a civil war at all. It was a secessionist movement, not a battle for control of our government and institutions.

Correct. What happened in Spain in the 30s or Russia in the 19-teens or Britain in the 1640s or Mexico in the 19-teens were actual civil wars. What happened in North America in the 1860s was no more a civil war than what happened in the 1770s-80s. In both cases one side simply sought independence. At no point did they have any desire to march in, depose the sitting government and install themselves in power over others. These were plainly wars of Independence.
