That is basically the situation. If we can button up the Rio Grande Valley and the border cities with effective new wall system, it will make a dramatic improvement in controlling our border. He has been targeting the most important miles first.
Being able to deter and delay with barrier, and detect and intercept with technology and people, is the physical problem. The separate policy and legal issues about what to do with them once caught, is a whole different problem. That is probably why the President is looking for a real hard ICE Director.
They were gushing today about a couple of miles of wall that cut illegal crossings by about half in a lot of cases. And of course the reality is that once illegals get a foot on our soil our current system makes us release them into our country often never to catch up with them again.
Those other countries with real walls get 99% reductions in those crossing. I like their solutions better.
