1) Give Mexico a one-year warning
2) Then impose additional tariffs
3) Then close the border

If there was ever a place on Earth that was screaming for us to enforce a no-fly zone, and use selected drone strikes, it’s Mexico. The haciendas of cartel leaders should all be hit in a Coordinated Time on target attack. At 9:55 some morning, 10 or 12 headquarters compounds of each major cartel should be hit with a devastating strike. A load of 2,000 Pounders on each one.
At the same moment, a company of Marines should be marching into the headquarters of every banks that has laundered their money.
We can’t have an Avacado Gap, Mr. President.
But of course, that’ll never happen. Our intelligence agencies have a long and glorious background of working with drug cartels. It’s a Wonderful source I’ve been visible money for black budgets. It’s a good source to find nefarious characters when you need to blow JFK’s head off, or launch a coup, or smuggle guns to the contras. So the CIA really has no big problem with drug cartels.
The CIA was eyeballs deep in the original French Connection. They were deeply involved in the Golden Triangle and actually flew dope smuggling aircraft during Vietnam. They were big in the beginning of the cocaine trade. Heroin production and smuggling has exploded since they took control of Afghanistan.
The CIA has been deeply historically involved with the international banking business.

Our government is more concerned about who’s president of Venezuela than who’s crossing our border from Mexico. We’ll be invading Venezuela before we do anything to secure our border with Mexico. It’s called neocon priorities. Trump has surrounded himself with neocons like Bolton and Pompeo. Ever hear these “national security hawks” talk about security at our own borders? I don’t. They’re too busy with Venezuela, Eastern Europe and Iran
While he’s at it Trump should read the riot act to the China about fentanyl !

A one year warning is stupid..so basically Mexico can keep sending thousands of illegals into this country and they have ONE year to make it stop, they wont, meantime millions will be pouring into this country..why not impose the tariffs now I dont get it
I have often wondered the same thing. It ain’t like the cartel bosses are a secret, nor are their operating sites.
Illegal drugs are a clear and present danger to These United States and should be met with overwhelming force. Is there not a “War on Drugs”? or is it merely a police action? IIRC, even those were fought with kinetic weapons.
Just think of the amount of dope and Fentanyl and homicidal MS-13 killers that can come in over the course of a year. I really thought he was going to be more of a man of action
