Whatever figure they come up with it will never be enough to satisfy the grievance industry. So let’s just not do it.

The reparations issue is a win win issue for Republicans in a national election because it is exclusively a pander to blacks which make up a big part of the Dem Party vote and whose vote the Dems own anyway. It will turn off hispanics and the minority of whites that vote Dem hopefully enough that it will temper their vote for those advocating reparations.

If you accept their reasoning that reparations are meant to make right the the crime of bringing their ancestors from Africa to America as slaves, I’m all in. I will gladly support reparations in the form of a one way ticket back to Africa for any black person who still feels aggrieved by not having been born in his or her ancestral homeland.

Robert Frances. I am also tired of that sham “nickname” that he is using to scam Hispanics into thinking he is one of them. I always change “beto” to “bobby” in my head and out loud if I hear someone say it. He is “bobby”. That’s his name. Bobby O’Rourke, the socialist democrat.

No reparations without repatriation.

Since my family fought in the civil war AND never owned slaves I want a cut of the money too... millions of white people are like me... the black community owes us...

IF you paid every Black citizen $24000 Dollars—in A year they would want more—To pay back for Jim Crow laws that were racist and unjust. Other groups would come forward— Native Americans for the Indian Wars and mistreatment, then Chinese, then Latinos for the Mexican War. It would never end. The list of victims would grow until America would be broke. Silly, self destructive, such things will fracture the nation and see a rise in true racism.

I think the family members of those killed or wounded in the civil war should get reparations from those freed.....

“Yes,” O’Rourke said when asked by the Rev. Al Sharpton at the civil rights figure's 2019 National Action Network convention in New York. “Absolutely, I would sign that into law.”

My great uncle lived and worked in Mexico as a miner and rancher. He was a gringo. He married a Mexican lady and brought her back to the USA when the Mexican revolution occurred. It was to dangerous. He was totally fluent in both languages. He loved both nations and of course his Mexican wife. Upon return he became a sheriffs deputy in Texas. He was murdered by an illegal alien. I ask you " Beto Irish Bob" do my uncles decedents deserve reparations and who pays, Mexico?

Lots of white people died to make sure blacks became recognized as full human beings. I know that some people say other reasons were in play but freedom was the number one reason.

Not only did whites die to give blacks their freedom, but there were holes in entire families when dads, brothers and uncles did not come back. In my own family, two brothers died at Vicksburg and were buried in a mass grave with no personal grave marker of recognition for their service and death. Their mother got a pittance of a pension from the government.

An entire family suffered the loss and generations of their offspring are missing.

First, I can think of no better way to get white males to vote RAT than to suggest this. (/s)

Second...1865 was the end of slavery in the United States. Slavery was a way of life from earliest recorded civilization...even American Indian Tribes had slaves. Slavery exists today, even in America, a form of slavery exists.

Exactly so. The USA is not perfect, and it's defenders make no such case. It was birthed in an imperfect world to an imperfect family of nations. It's done more to advance society than any other country, and all minorities (even those without papers) have a much better life here than anywhere else.

So I've used up all patience with the America bashers, be they European, RAT, or black. To them I say: the Founders have done much more to advance civilization than you will ever understand, much less equal. You have no grievance.

Your plans to 'fix' that which you view as imperfect (and therefore intolerable) bring to mind the toddler attempting to 'fix' a toaster with a hammer.
