Trump White House presses threat to close U.S.-Mexico border this week
Washington Post ^ | April 1, 2019 | David J. Lynch, Maria Sacchetti, Joel Achenbach

The White House doubled down Sunday on President Trump’s threat to close the U.S. border with Mexico, despite warnings that the move would inflict immediate economic damage on American consumers and businesses while doing little to stem a tide of migrants clamoring to enter the United States.

Sealing the border with Mexico, America’s third-largest trading partner, would disrupt supply chains for major U.S. automakers, trigger swift price increases for grocery shoppers and invite lawsuits against the federal government, according to trade specialists and business executives.

JUST DO IT!!!!!!!

I love The Donald but by the fourth threat, you kinda lose fear it’s going to happen.

Like a guy threatening to fight you.

If he really wanted to, you’d find out he wanted to fight you after you got hit.

Though he DID make good on his threat to cut funding to some of those countries where illegals are coming from.

Always easy to make sideline decisions.

But I dont have much else in my life so leave me alone :)

He has to threaten first to give the dems enough time to block it in court. Nothing will ever get done, but he scores cheap political points this way. Surprised no one has caught on yet.

You don’t make threats, unless you’re prepared to follow through. Follow through Mr. President.

All the OMG angst that commercial business will grind to a halt and US, Canada and Mexico will wither and die if the border closes. Bullspit, require all commerce shift from road/rail delivery be shifted to maritime ports. Close the land border that these millions walk across. Sure illegals also come by sea, but that’s easier to guard.

“——— but the Mexican economy will collapse. Obrador will go from hero to goat overnight. “

My bet is that a week, maybe two at most with the border closed, and Mexico would be kissing Trump’s butt to reopen it, and would be willing to do most anything to make it happen. Mexico is like a boil on America’s a$$, and it always has been. A real-life Parador of a stinkhole country. And when Trump does it and AMLO capitulates, he needs to understand he’s not Kim Jon Un, and we will close the border for twice as many days if he tries any end runs.

Did he? I read that it had to be approved by congress.

Surprised no one has caught on yet.

Anne Coulter did and got pilloried here for her effort.

Anne got way to personal on the issue for me but that doesn't make her first statements untrue. Time will tell.

I remember how everyone here just knew GW would show us how the Clintons trashed the White House. Guess they are still trying to find all those missing G and W keys they pulled of the keyboards.

Who knew he would just adopt Bill as a brother?

If you need an auto/truck battery anytime soon, better get it now...(esp. West of the Mississippi)...Johnson Controls (makes Walmart, Autozone, O’Reilly, DieHard, Energizer, Advance Auto, Delco, Bosch, Costco, etc., etc., etc.)(think I read that NAPA just switched to EastPenn recently?) makes their normal “flooded” batteries in Mexico. Some “Optima” & AGM may be made here.

Mexico relies on the trade more than we do. This action will hurt them faster and harder than it will to us. This is big stick diplomacy at it’s best. Love it.

“from road/rail delivery be shifted to maritime ports”
I suggested the same on a different post yesterday.
Mexico and US economics won’t come to a screeching halt
if the border is shut down. The big players always have
a back-up plan to keep the cash flowing. Logistics by
ship tend to be less expensive as well. A smart business
man at this point, would be lining up the required
maritime contracts.
