SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The reward to help find the suspect who murdered the son of a Philadelphia police chief inspector Saturday night in FDR Park has grown to $35,000.

Twenty-year-old Nicholas Flacco was shot and killed around 10 p.m. on the 1400 block of Pattison Avenue

Nicholas Flacco's father Chris heads the Philadelphia Police Department's Internal Affairs Unit.

A police source told Action News Flacco was home from Penn State University for the weekend to celebrate his birthday. The source said Flacco was tailgating with friends after the Phillies game had ended.

Police said two groups of friends got into an argument in FDR Park, just off Pattison Avenue, and shots were fired.

Flacco was hit in the chest and taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

According to police radio transmissions from the incident released Sunday: "There was a large group in the park here when this happened. They dispersed on Pattison toward Broad Street. A bunch of juveniles. A bystander out here apparently said there was a green car involved, older model sedan like a Honda. It went eastbound on Patterson after it left the park."

Following the shooting, police officers, friends, and loved ones gathered at the hospital.

The kid comes home from Penn State for the weekend and gets gunned down. Terrible! Sounds like "youths" were involved. Awful city with an awful mayor who pritects criminals.

I hope they catch and successfully prosecute the murderer. Casually killing someone seems to be a more common occurrence now than in the long ago days when I was young. However, one cannot help but wonder if the same level of effort that will undoubtedly put into solving this murder will be applied to the other murders in Philly.

Nicholas Flacco returned to his South Philadelphia home from Penn State University for the weekend to celebrate his birthday.

Well, that was his first mistake, a college student should be smarter than that.

The report is unclear as to whether this guy was specifically targetted, or whether the fight was between two other groups, and he just caught the bullet meant for somebody else.

“green car”

How is the color of the car relevant? Seems prejudicial.

I'm getting a tire this morning to replace one destroyed in a Kenney pothole. Later I'll go out of the city to avoid the insane soda tax.

There aren’t a lot of green cars on the road. Last summer my work car died and we had to go get a new one. We went to the local Chevy dealership and looked at the Equinox of which they had a large supply. My wife saw a green one and loved it, her being red headed Irish and all. I nixed it because it looked like a velour pin cushion and we settled on a subdued metallic silverish shade. Back in 1970 I bought a brand new BMW 2002 while on active duty. It was in British Racing Green with a tan interior. A little over a year later when I left active duty and returned to PA from San Diego, I had a cousin who was a paint and body man change the color to Cadillac’s Ice Blue Firemist, a magic shape shifter that would take on the hue of the atmosphere at the moment from pure silver on a cloudy summer day to glacier blue when the sun was high in a cloudless sky to stunning turquoise when driving south on the I-5 from LA to SDiego when the ocean was that color in the late afternoon. So green being pretty rare, maybe some of those Philly tailgaters remembered that older green Honda.

My first car was a used green AMC Gremlin. Suddenly I was seeing Gremlins all over. Lots of green ones, too. Maybe it was a thing back then. So was rust, it seems.

Your life can be ruined in the blink of an eye. What kind of God creates amazing creatures and throws them into a living hell to sink or swim?

The kind of God who creates a world where several million mothers got up this morning and kissed their babies, held them and loved them. The kind of God who made the world beautiful and hospitable to life and happiness and prosperity.

The kind of God who made you so that you can tell there is something wrong when all of that goes to shit.

Why don't you get out of bed and go make the world a better place instead of blaming God for the evil that men do?

If you are going to blame God for the thousand murders you need to also give Him credit for the billions of loving relationships and acts of heroism which are the norm not the exception. If you are going to blame him for the storm you need to give Him credit for the infinite beauty of creation.

Guess which side of the ledger overwhelms the other?

If all you can see is the evil and the doom, then your mind is blinded and your eyes are closed to reality. Wake up and open your eyes. Every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variableness or shadow of turning.

God does not throw anyone into Hell. He provides a place for those who refuse to obey Him to go. People enter into Hell willingly.

The latest news reports are saying different groups of girls started the fight and Falco was trying to break it up. One of the girls left to “get her man” and he sprayed the group with bullets.
