Last week, a federal judge ruled that the Department of Justice had failed to prove something it insisted for years was true: that a Fremont man tried to travel to Syria in 2015, to join a terrorist organization.

Come on over I can fix that.
The FBI loves intrapment....Some dumb ass says something stupid and the FBI will egg him along...
REad. Police State by Gerry Spence....
In his letter, Shafi wrote he never intended the menacing things I said, especially regarding our soldiers.
The defense said those statements were the result of not violent intent, but Shafis inner conflict as he attempted to find himself.
C'mon, he was just a confused young man
probably didn't even have a Mother or Father to relate to .. just trying to find himself! /s
There is a .45 caliber cure for that.
Even though he said that he wanted to kill Americans that wasn’t enough for the leftist judge.
Both Orrick and his father are/were Commies!
I really wanted to kill some, like, fricking people that were, uh, like supporting America or-or American soldiers or something.
I guess that would fit the definition of saying something stupid.

I dont like this tactic by the FBI ... even when used against stupid & despicable Muslims. The FBI, with large numbers of FBI agents who are actually incompetent, uses it to up their terrorism prevention stats MUCH higher than what is actually prevented.
“MUCH higher than what is actually prevented.”
And that’s the problem. Do you know how many terrorists are in the US? Neither do I. Do you think it would be a correct assumption that there might be more than we know about? I do. Do you know how many terrorist organizations are in the US at any given time?
The Bureau of Counterterrorism in the State Department (CT) continually monitors the activities of terrorist groups active around the world to identify potential targets for designation. When reviewing potential targets, CT looks not only at the actual terrorist attacks that a group has carried out, but also at whether the group has engaged in planning and preparations for possible future acts of terrorism or retains the capability and intent to carry out such acts.
The list is on this site:
https://www.state.gov/j/ct/rls/other/des/123085.htm
And this list only goes back to 1997 and has the last entrance in 2018. Groups go in and out of service all the time. The amount could by far more than this if some resurface.
An example is the cancelling of the 1995 airlift rodeo at McChord AFB, Tacoma, WA, because there were in excess of 200 terrorist groups in the area that wanted to get on the base with the public. The public was shut out for everyone’s protection. I was on the committee that made that decision. It wasn’t a hard one for us to make.
