Senate Republicans, frustrated at Democratic stalling tactics on President Donald Trumps appointments, moved Thursday to change Senate rules to significantly shorten debate time on most nominees.
Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said hes making the move in response to unprecedented obstruction by Democrats, which have required Republicans to hold time-consuming procedural votes on 128 of Trumps nominees. [ ]
McConnell said Democrats have dragged out debates on even routine nominations, burning up the Senates time and delaying confirmation of scores of Trump appointees. He noted that similar rules were easily but temporarily voted into place for the most recent two years of Democratic control of the Senate and warned that continued obstruction would hamper a future Democratic administration as well.
Is this how American government is supposed to work from here on out? asked McConnell. Whichever party loses the White House basically prohibits the new president from standing up an administration?

I watched his speech on this on C-SPAN2 this afternoon. He made me feel proud of him.
I hope this procedural change is quickly approved followed quickly by a huge, CONTINUOUS, wave of confirmation votes on Trumps nominees.
Good. About time.
Great! Finally! Thank you, finally, Sen. McConnell!
What is this, the 20th month that he’s been talking about this?
They’ve had two years to do this. Nothing like dragging your feet, and letting the Democrats stall the process. Gutless wonders.
Okay, who stole the real McConnell and replaced him with a vertebrate?
No kidding!
Now that PDJT is unleashed, these ahole congressmen need to step boldly!
Then they need to convene multiple Grand Juries to handle different sorts of crimes and go after the corrupt FBI, DOJ, and CIA, people hammer and tong.
That's the Federal Government dealing with illegal acts by Federal employees, not the government going after a particular political party which means it's exactly what Congress is supposed to be doing all the time rather than once every fifty or so years when something too big to hid is made public.
This is the nature of the Senate, know as "the most deliberative body in the world". This is actually lightning fast for them. I too would have loved to see McConnell do this at the first sign of obstruction, especially since Schumer stated their intentions well in advance. But that's just not how the Senate works, and McConnell can say "I tried to work with them".
Starting with his rejection of Garland, Mitch has kicked ass on judicial appointments, and this a continuation of that. Just pray that we keep the WH and Senate in 2020. If we do, the courts will be secured for at least a generation.
We are more than half way through the first term, and Trump deserves his appointments. Screw The Resistance. It is getting boring.
“Theyve had two years to do this. Nothing like dragging your feet, and letting the Democrats stall the process. Gutless wonders.”
By the time McConnell needed this to kill this rule, the Republicans only had 51 Senate seats. If you want to blame people, blame Sessions, Roy Moore, and the RINO women who refused to support the rule change.
This is the one Trump agenda item China Mac is willing to promote, because he then takes credit for it.
Well that's the problem I have with them dragging their feet...the fact that the Republicans could lose control of the Senate and White House in two years. So they waste two years being gutless wonders. Screw the excuse "we tried to work with them." If it had been six months, even a year, I could understand, but two freakin' years they've been trying to accommodate the Dems? McConnell has been playing games these past two years, and has put the needs of America, and taxpayers on the back burner, all for the sake of public appearance.
What has Roy Moore got to do with it?

My dog could win a US Senate seat in Alabama, as long as he had an “R” after his name. Roy Moore, on the other hand, could not.
Your dog wouldn’t have been demonized as a pedophile like Roy Moore was.
You don’t know my dog. But anyway...he still played it really bad, and lost because of it. It was our SAFEST SEAT and he couldn’t hold it.
He didn't have much support, or backing from the party. You can't win an election on your own. And it's hard to imagine anyone else doing any better while being labeled a pervert. My father was 32 and married my mother when she was 16. Their first child was born 4 years later, so they didn't have to get married. But in the world of the Dem's today, my Dad would be labeled a pedophile. It's easy to second-guess someone after the fact, and say what they should or shouldn't have done. None of what you think he should have done may have worked anyway, especially against the Democrat-controlled media.
