Isn’t there some sort of privacy issue here? Aren’t subpoenas and lawyers for crimes, not to go fishing to find/make up crimes?

The double standards are over the top.

I don't know what priests has to do with anything but I'll stake my life on they have lawyers...lots of them

A foreign country can tell the US Congress/Rep./Committee to go to hell and invoke their country’s privacy rules.

A little Merkel payback against Trump. Just wait and see what The Donald does to her.

I wonder under what federal law Waters is subpoenaing these documents from a foreign country. I think this is not an opinion available to her or a congressional committee without the President, Secy of State and State Dept.’s legal section finding a legal basis for it.

This occasionally happens in criminal extraditions for fugitives wanted by the US who live on foreign soil, or in relation to an Interpol warrant, or for war crimes against Americans.
