Having graduated Boot at Parris Island, I can tell you that R. Lee Emery was spot-on perfect as a Marine Corp Drill Instructor! I know of no other actor that came as close.

Know what R. Lee Emery said to his father as he left home at 17? "Now you are the man of the house".

Know what R. Lee Emery replied when asked about Chuck Norris? "Who is she". LOL

Those are actually jokes about Clint Eastwood...

Uh, R. Lee Ermey WAS, IN FACT, a Marine D.I. He wasn’t acting.

Emery was suppose to be a consultant hired by Kubrick for that movie. He fit the role so well, Kubrick put him in the film, And Kubrick allowed Emery to do what he wanted with the role which is not something an obssesive-compulsive Kubrick ever did!!

I loved “Mail Call” with the bulldog!
