Executive Summary: Dr. Dre publicly boasted that his daughter didn't need help to get into USC, but was then reminded that he gave USC $70 mil before said daughter was admitted.
The good Dr. then removed the Instagram post in question, which was probably for the best.

How much is he worth? $70 million? I’m sure that’s a long term endowment and not a lump sum.

Well, at least he violated no laws to do this - he didn't pay for anyone to take his daughter's tests for her, he didn't bribe some coach to pretend she was on a team. He just did what rich folks have always done to get their kids into college - he made a huge donation.

Affirmative action not enough to get Dre’s kid in?

In other words, Dre won’t get jail time because he helped his daughter get into USC the old fashioned way: getting the family name on a building on campus. Damn, he could have just gotten his daughter in the old-fashioned way - affirmative action - and saved the $70m!

More by a factor of 10 - Forbes had him at $750 million a few years ago. He profited greatly by the sale of the 'Beats By Dre' headphone line to Apple several years ago.

Add another zero and you’ll be closer.
To: Fledermaus
At least everyone can benefit from the use of a building.

My daughter got accepted into USC all on her own." Maybe she did but there's always the question of Affirmative Action.
To: Steely Tom
He could have just given her the 70 million.
To: King Moonracer
My thought exactly, King. Affirmative Action alone would have done the trick, no donation necessary.

He owns the BEATS music line. Gotta be worth a Billion or more.
Either that or OWNED it and sold it to apple for several billion. I forget.
70 million for a new wing? Lots of kids benefit and one kid gets in because of it. There’s worse deals going on.

Took a lot if words to get to it.
Here: Dre says his daughter got in on her own - but it was after he gave $70M to the school.

What Dre did was legal and what those others did wasn’t . Why is that such a difficult concept for the leftie media to grasp? I don’t see any problem with a private university letting a kid in in exchange for 70m. Sounds like good business to me. And a new building means they can add more students, so it really isn’t taking someone else’s place.
He is kind of an ass for bragging about it though.

So bribing the school as a whole is okay, you just can’t single out a specific employee for the bribe?

Donating a building to get your kid in may be an acceptable form of bribery and is usually public

If she had the necessary scores (typically around 200 SAT points lower than the white requirement and 300 lower than the Asian requirement), that would be true. I’m guessing that she was way below that threshold. Colleges have lower standards for blacks and Hispanics. But they do have standards.
