Benedict Arnold had a more heroic military record in service to the country than did McCain. However, because of one act of treachery and betrayal, he is rightly reviled by all right thinking Americans. If McCain’s fellow POW’s are to be believed, he was anything but a hero while held in Vietnam and he spent the great bulk of his post-Navy life betraying everyone who was gullible enough to trust him. Perhaps the best way to address McCain’s legacy is to say “Thank you for your service, but d*mn you for your vile treachery and cruelty.”
