Outrageous he spent so much time in prison for an action that probably saved the life of some of his men.

Absolutely. All of his men got to come home, except him. The idea that they called it "premeditated" is absurd on its face.

I was gonna say he could lecture by my early dementia makes me forget mid post :)

He DEFINITELY can.

Maybe run for office one day.

You never know.

He was a prisoner of war, except his own country imprisoned him.

His mon was interviewed today on WMAL in DC. She was just giddy with happiness... She said it ain’t over yet. They are gonna fight to get the verdict over turned. Bammy used this kid as a pawn. Prosecutors bribed and threatened the two witnesses.

I wish I had heard Renee. Beverly Perlson and some other freepers have been interfacing with her frequently for years now, including demonstrating outside the House Office Building in DC. She seems like a wonderful person, and she is a person of faith, which has been sustaining for Derrick.

You are 100% correct about the pawn thing. It is contemptible in the extreme.

This not going to be popular, I have some questions after I did some research 1. What makes this man a hero? Not everyone who served in Iraq and Afghanistan were hero’s. I prefer to see them as Patriots. I know real hero’s they are men who went beyond. In the military we honor them above others, because we know what they did and why. So why is this man an American hero, what did he do that was heroic? 2. If I read everything correctly, the claim that it was premeditated murder was put aside which then allowed him to be “paroled.” So if it was not premeditated murder, was it involuntary manslaughter? Parole indicates that while not guilty of premeditated murder, there is a presumption of guilt of something. 3. Did this happen on a FOB or at a base? I would think in 2011 this would have had to occur on a FOB. 101st had a rough deployment in 2011, was he part of that? 4. Why was he questioning the prisoner? Were there no other senior NCOs? No Officers, no intel types. None of the articles answered these questions. If he did this on Bagram I would be very suspicious. It was war time, he felt the afghan was a threat, he proactively took steps to mitigate a possible threat. It all went wrong after that, there are serious questions. None of this however makes him a hero.

When are they going to put the filthy sons of bitches who prosecuted him in Leavenworth?

In a just world.... so don't hold your breath waiting for it. The past admin did everything it could to utterly destroy morale, and the military itself. Mattis was just a way station. There is so much work to be done to repair all the destruction.

Even with between the lines reading of the facts where they may have been aggressively interrogating this guy to prevent another attack, charging him with premeditated murder seems completely unreasonable to me.

You've got that right. It was a complete travesty.

Iike I said never believe dirtbag Jim Hoft or anything from gateway pundit.

You are completely misinformed. This case has been thoroughly researched and vetted by dozens of lawyers and activists for the past seven years. I personally have spent many hours in research and in communication with freepers who have attended his hearings and listened to testimony. Where did you read your version, on the Internet?

Have you never heard of fragging, or of troops telling lies about their officers to get revenge for having been disciplined for some petty infractions? Derrick was lied about by some "witnesses" but completely supported by others. Do you seriously think a Congressman as prominent and well-known as Louie Gohmert, a former JAG officer, would have defended Miller without researching the facts?

See post 67 for a rebuttal of the ludicrous claims that Miller was a “dirtbag” and his supporters “ignorant fools.”

Your prejudice against Gateway Pundit is ludicrous. If Gateway Pundit published the text of the Declaration of Independence, you would claim that only dirtbags wrote it and only fools think it’s valid.

The Miller story was published yesterday and today in a number of places. I picked the GP article over the United American Patriots article and the two Facebook articles and various others, because it was short and sweet. But the contents line up with much more in-depth articles elsewhere.

I challenge you to read the following case history from the University of Chicago Law School that is clearly favorable to Sgt Miller:

What did the CBC have to do with the case? Did they turn their back on a bro?

Derrick's mother and a committee of supporters attempted to meet with all Maryland U.S. Representatives, at least one of whom (Elijah Cummings) is also on the CBC, and appealed to many persons in public life for help with the case. All Democrats, they would not give her the time of day and did nothing in response to the many calls and letters and sidewalk demonstrations by supporters.

So was the eyewitness lying? Was he mistaken? Is he going to be punished? This whole thing is weird.

Lying. Post 37 explains it very succinctly.

From the other comments on here I see there is some question of facts. One thing I am sure of is our soldiers have been fighting against stacked decks and backstabbers. And the enemies were even worse.

Check out the case history from U. of Chicago Law School linked in post 46; also there's a good short summary in post 37.

I’m asking you, did you think it was done for entertainment purposes only? What reason do you think he shot that afghani? If not justified than all other paths lead to PTSD. He should have treated then, rather than prosecution.

Remember he is on his 3rd deployment with particular predilection to random murder.

How about the soldier that killed an afghani just because he was abusing children or do you think he did it for some nefarious reason?

I believe the “hero” word is, as you indicate, often bandied about carelessly. In this situation, I think it refers to his several previous deployments and stellar record from those, and most importantly, that the man he was questioning had been spying and that he warned his men to change positions. Derrick’s actions helped all his men avoid being killed in an attack that resulted from the spying. The link in post 47 explains it better than I could.

I think there was something wrong with this guy from the beginning. First of all he was not a professional soldier, Regular Army, but a weekend warrior National Guardsmen who volunteered for combat deployment at least three times. THAT in itself tells you he has a few screws loose. A would be adventurer who couldn’t get into the Army. Obviously with no civilian job and nothing but time in his hands to go overseas as active duty. Nothing to keep him in the states in terms of a future.

Second, national guardsmen are not assigned as POW interrogators. That assignment is a very specialized field. Not for part time weekend warriors.

My guess is that this guy was just playing soldier as a enemy interrogator without any formal training and things just got out of hand and he thought threatening the prisoner would make him talk and when he didn’t he just blew the guy away.
