Trump also said that these “institutions of higher learning” should have skin in the game when it comes to student loans, and students should have the right to know exactly what they can expect to gain from the degrees they are spending so much money on. These are all good things.
I recall that one of the issues that the Occupy Wall Street kids complained about was that they had spent so much on a college education but could not find a job. Of course, they blamed Wall Streets one percenters instead of the colleges that didnt bother counseling them that academically easy majors in studies arent worth the paper their diplomas are printed on.
While the responsibility to check whether ones field of study is likely to pay off ultimately falls on the student, I also realize that many students going to college are not likely to do such analysis of their majors. So it is a good thing for Trump to require colleges to at least make such information available.
