Communities Near Omaha Area Brace For More Flooding, Damage
Omaha World Herald ^ | 3/15/2019 | Erin Duffy

As floodwaters continued to devastate parts of the state on Friday, communities north and northwest of the Omaha metro area have braced for more damage.

Flooding has already been blamed for at least one death and two people are believed to be missing as of Friday afternoon. About a dozen injuries have been reported, including to first responders.

Homes are underwater and roads impassable. People displaced by the waters have taken shelter in hospitals, schools and other community buildings.

Residents across the region are being evacuated as levees break or rivers overflow their banks. Rita Argintean was one of many residents at a Valley assisted living center who was preparing to evacuate.

We are having a pretty good disaster situation here in Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa. I have seen absolutely no mention of this in the MSM so I wanted to let you all know what is happening here in flyover country. I am safe from this where I am located but it is affecting hundreds if not thousands of folks in the area.

I’ve been following this and find the media desirable in their lack of coverage. This an epoch flood. BTTT.

I just saw it reported on ABC Evening News. To see if the enemy is reporting it you have to venture into enemy territory.

We’re off of 96 & Platteview Road. Lake Olivia, and another lake 1/2 mile away has formed into one large lake. The Platte River is just blocks away So I’m wondering if these lakes have joined into the river. Our place is about a mile uphill. We should be ok, except we’re having problems with our well. This is so sad to watch. So many people are impacted.

We’re clearing up the wreckage from that winter storm that hammered us here in Colorado. It’s all melting off in the Denver area, but still dicey east of here.

To the MSM you are flyover country and expendable. The rest of us are praying for your safety and relief. Know there so many that so care.

We are over near Gretna just south of Tiburon. We just got back from Round the Bend Steakhouse. I have never seen that much water over by Mahoney. The area in between Hwy 6 and the river was half full of water.

Glad you all are up high and I hope your well gets better. It really is a sad deal. I grew up in Beatrice and went through the severe flooding in 1973 when I was in fourth grade. We were up high enough that we didn’t get any water in our house but many of our neighbors did. The big floodwater came within a half a block of us. The power was out for 10 days and we were out of school for a couple of weeks. I just remember how bad it smelled. There were snakes and rats skittering around the neighborhood which was pretty weird. Those people affected have a lot to get through before things get back to normal.

Some areas are beginning to look like 2011.

Saw 2011 flying into Eppley from a trip. That was a massive flood. Haven’t had a chance to see much of it this time.

Our power pole to the well is down because of flooding. They can’t hook up a generator because it’s flooded. Apparently it will be a while until they can help us. We invested in water this week. God help those who are hardest hit.
