Maybe it’s neither bullying nor shaming. Maybe they’re terrified that they might be shunned, and being ignored is intolerable for narcissists.

Nah, doesn't work for me. There will always be people who
will be on their side no matter what to feed any narcissism.
An example - the women who marry infamous murderers in prison for life.

Shaming is what gets the goat. It's an embarrassment.
