Here’s my question to our political bandwagon-jumping activist Pope:
Was manna from heaven caused by climate change?
Fascinating, though. Thanks very much.
Jeez. If this crowd of envirowackos were around in Christ’s day I’m sure they would have given him hell for changing water into wine.
Global Catholic Climate Movement (GCCM) = the usual suspects, the Francis-appointees now wearing the Science hats. Some of them are true wolves of the most dangerous sort, e.g. the world-population-controller Jeffrey Sachs.
The Catholic Climate Covenant= the USCCB. Some of them are Junior Wolves, alumni or the Catholics-for-Obama machine.
So it was definitely handed on by the lowerarchy on high.
However, our parish also has JPIC committee (Justice,Peace and the Integrity of Creation ---meaning, Erf-sim) and these are parishoners who mostly-guileless True Believers. I see some of these good ladies at Adoration and at St. Vincent de Paul.
AS for my esteemed Fr. Pete? Well, as pastor, he has full responsibility to go along or not-go-along with the hints and shoves from Knoxville, Washington, DC. and Brussels-on-the-Tiber.
We have a genuinely respectful mutual relationship and I don't expect any bad repercussions. I do hope it opens up new levels of dialogue. He is a good listener, honest, and not, I think, a clerical careerist nor a smarmy equivocating peronist.
Well, we shall see. All this is a learning experience for me, too.
Pray, and keep praying.
Indeed...
Very Well Done !!!
I don’t know how in the world you do it. That was completely devoid of meanness, orneriness, and sarcasm. I could not have pulled off what you did. Your approach leaves them with nothing to argue about except your facts.
Well done. God must keep you around for just this reason. Sometime, someday, I am going to quit being mean and nasty and try to argue more like you. Shoot, you even being into a thread makes me wanna behave better. Hope you’re sticking with whatever you gave up for Lent ! :)
I am just waiting for the Gaia worshippers to claim that driving SUV’s will cause the Sun to turn into a helium burning red giant.
I think lib “pastors” should give up SJWarrioring for lent. Talk about a sacrifice, Father Pfleger wouldn’t last a week.
I said I'd report if my pastor replied, so here goes:
He wrote back right away (he's exceptionally good that way) and thanked me for the letter. But he said he's dealing with health concerns and has been wiped-out energy-wise and really feeling it in our very active parish community during Lent. He doesn't feel he can get much involved in the complexities of political-scientific debate.
He noted he's given our Respect Life Committee free rein to do our thing in the parish, so when the parish JPIC committee (Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation) asked to do this for Lent--- and the USCCB and the (self-described) Pope explicitly put their OK on this kind of thing--- he said, OK to them too.
He hopes that I will take concerns to the JPIC people and engage is respectful dialogue.
So that's it.
In all fairness, all his points are relevant and true. He does give full support to our prolife campaigns, he HAS been looking wiped-out energy-wise lately (I don't know the backstory on medical issues) AND it is a bit much to expect him to go into the geophysics of the thing.
However my point is just that: we don't look to priest or Pope (or the policy munchkins at the USCCB) for science and politics. We look to the Church for the doctrines of the Faith, the right worship of God, and the Eternal Moral Law.
In these other matters the clergy are stepping way outside of their competence. Just leave that stuff alone.
Also in all fairness, keeping and tilling the Earth IS part of the Eternal Moral Law. But the lunacy of the "reduce your Carbon Footprint" hijacking and co-opting the justifiable classic "conservation" concern" --- that's what's truly objectionable.
Wisely steward the resources and don't pollute the water, soil and crops, yes.
Climate Crisis Craziness, no.
What think ye?
Well, it pretty much boils down to your last line:
“Climate Crisis Craziness, no.”
Although predicting sea level rise is one thing, they lead believers to think that NY or Miami other coastal locations will be under hundreds of feet of water. Not true at all. Me, I’m pretty fed up with the lies and the push by panels and media into self destruction. Have and awesome weekend.
I don’t use chemical weed kill on my lawn. Yet, the river at the bottom of the hill is still filled with the stuff.
I pull my few dandelions. Yet, my neighborhood is still filled with them.
Point is: penance is not going to be a town-wide activity, where we focus on results.
Their idea violates a basic principle. Do your duty and let God provide the increase. Let God be God. They are focused on the results instead of focusing on themselves.
The church has Lenten rules for fasting and abstinence. Beyond that, they don’t lecture anyone to do any specific penance. It is up to the individual. The Justice folks lack the authority to ask more.
If the Justice folks wanna make SUGGESTIONS ... Fine.
Drive less. Use your fireplace. Etc.
The nannies never stop at suggestions.
Father Pfleger is going to commie heaven when he dies.
BINGO!
