McCarthy refers to that possibility. It keeps the conviction and under NYS law makes Vance’s indictment double jeopardy as it proceeds from the exact same crime he was convicted for by Mueller, and NYS’s own law prevludes that.

In a commutation, the president can reduce the sentence down to time served

Excellent suggestion. If Trump is interested in saving this life from death he better think carefully. And now he should go after NY and finish the job of this States destruction. It needs to be hurt real bad because of the communists leaders.

Look at the history of how many GOP pres contenders and campaigns had employed Paul Manafort

The Trumpists may have been uncomfortable with Manaforts ongoing private business clientele, but after the uniparty took out Lewandoski on the flimsiest of setups, at a critical time, Trump the political novice needed a Hail Mary to bring home the nomination

Manafort delivered, and was ‘ fired” within days after

The blue states are lawless and in open rebellion...Yeah, Andy, that’s been known for years now.

Too bad we don’t have a DOJ to bring these crooks to justice.

It appears from what Manafort has actually testified to, that he did in fact commit mortgage fraud.

It may be “political” to go after him for this particular thing, and it doesn’t look like any of his “fraud” cost anybody anything; he did the fraud to qualify for loans he probably would not have otherwise, but up to this point, he has not defaulted on his loans, so nobody has suffered.

But deliberately lying about financial matters to a bank in order to secure a mortgage is a crime, and if you commit that crime, how you manage to get caught seems a secondary concern.

He can commute the sentence, which would leave the conviction — in fact, if Trump was going to do anything, that is what I would expect him to do, not pardon him, since the crimes were real.

And commutation of sentence wouldn’t allow the state to re-charge the crimes.

I think Bush commuted the sentence of Libby, rather than pardoning him.

Note Manafort is at an age where having a conviction on his record probably won’t matter anymore.

Key players in both parties ( Brennan, Biden, Schiff, McCain) were hellbent on inflating the Ukraine conflict as a proxy war vs Russia and to sell lethal ( offensive) weapons to Ukraine

Also bent on keeping or escalating Russian sanctions and confrontation

The GOP platform that Manafort was seen as influencing might have sought to reduce, not escalate, with Ukraine and Russia. This is his secondary crime, after helping Trump defeat the GOPe

Actually, New York City {and State) should scare the crap out of all of us. I just hope that the few remaining rich Conservatives who still live there and pay taxes, leave, post haste, and take all of their money with them. And conversely, I hope all the wealthy LIberals stay on and watch Cuomo, DeBlabbino, & Co. liberate every last dollar they have to support the great unwashed who make that city and state their home. Maybe in 100 years or so Manhattan Island will, like suburban Detroit go back to its natural state.

Good point, but still jeopardizes his civil rights for felony convictions. Better than prison I assume.

“Trump owes Manafort nothing”

Why would you conclude that? Manafort has been the RATs drone target to get Trump. Manafort has been “shielding Trump” from direct fire.

Viktor Yanukovych vs Viktor Yushchenko

Yushchenko, hero of Ukraine's Orange Revolution warns Europe that Putin won't stop at Crimea

by Matthew Schofield - McClatchy Foreign Staff
March 27, 2014

Many Ukrainians believe you need look no further than the face of Viktor Yushchenko to understand Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

Once smooth and ruggedly handsome, it still bears the scars from an assassination attempt when someone slipped dioxin into Yushchenko's food. ..."

Viktor Yanukovych vs Viktor Yushchenko

In 2004, as President Kuchma's term came to an end, [Viktor] Yushchenko announced his candidacy for president as an independent.

His major rival was Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych. ..."

The campaign was often bitter and violent.

Yushchenko became seriously ill in early September 2004.

He was flown to Vienna’s Rudolfinerhaus clinic for treatment and diagnosed with acute pancreatitis, accompanied by interstitial edematous changes, due to a serious viral infection and chemical substances that are not normally found in food products.

Yushchenko claimed that he had been poisoned by government agents.

After the illness, his face was greatly disfigured: jaundiced, bloated, and pockmarked.

British toxicologist Professor John Henry of St Mary’s Hospital in London declared the changes in Yushchenko’s face were due to chloracne, which results from dioxin poisoning.[17]

Dutch toxicologist Bram Brouwer also stated his changes in appearance were the result of chloracne, and found dioxin levels in Yushchenko’s blood 6,000 times above normal.[18]

On December 11, Dr. Michael Zimpfer of the Rudolfinerhaus clinic declared that Yushchenko had ingested TCDD dioxin and had 1,000 times the usual concentration in his body.[19]

The proper time to object, Mr. McCarthy, was with Mueller's blatantly political prosecution. Everybody knows nobody would have ever charged Manafort with anything but for the fact he helped Trump.

Trump needs to immediately commute Manifort’s sentence to time served. No pardon. Just commute the sentence. He needs to mention the NYS political persecution as the driving factor.

Oh, I think we’re well beyond “things that should scare us all” alarms. See, for example, John Roberts’ dissent in the Obergefell v. Hodges [homosexual “marriage”] case about the USSCt’s power grab. There are so many recent examples of encroaching government under Obama, so little taught correctly about civil liberties, so much pontification about a dire future right around the corner, and so little immediate effects, that no one cares.
