Pelosi may be a dingbat, but she is shrewd enough to realize that impeaching Trump would not only invigorate his supporters but would also inspire sympathy in some. Americans love an underdog, they hate to see someone picked on, and many states are infected with what is known as “Minnesota nice”. They just want everyone to be nice.

The Dems are deploying their usual “Good Cop/Bad Cop” trope with this impeachment threat. This is all to make Pelosi look moderate and responsible. But of course, her final comment “he’s not worth it” casts her sympathy with the “Bad cops”-—she’s also aware that it’s a losing proposition, and will result in more support for Trump, so the nation will instead be treated to 81 investigations for the next 20 months.Which might prove to be even more of a losing proposition.
By “curiosity-wise” she’s invoking the dormant Dem talking point about Trump that he’s not curious about real geo-politics as it exists today, but instead careens forward every day thinking he knows everything about everything already..If you’ll remember, they said the same thing about Reagan, led by Carter as he recalled the transition meeting with RR.
