Moscow Charges U.S. Embassy Staffer Had Mortar Shell In His Luggage
Radio Free Europe ^ | March 9, 2019

Russia's Foreign Ministry has said that "an object similar to an unarmed mortar shell" was confiscated from the baggage of a U.S. Embassy employee at Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport on March 9, the Russian state news agency TASS reported.

The report said the object had a detonator but no explosives.

According to the TASS report, the Russian Foreign Ministry considered the incident "a provocation."

The incident comes at a time of tense relations between the two countries, aggravated last month by a U.S. decision to withdraw from a key Cold War-era nuclear-arms treaty amid accusations that Moscow had violated it.

In response, Moscow also suspended its participation in the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty and accused the United States of violating it.

"The U.S. Embassy was immediately informed about the incident," an unnamed Foreign Ministry source was quoted as saying.

The unidentified embassy employee was allowed to board a flight to New York after the object was confiscated.

The U.S. Embassy has not commented on the alleged incident.

It was a jar of Borscht you dumb Bolsheviks. Everyone knows that you get mortar shells at “Shells R Us”, Rehobeth, Delaware.

Mae West: “Is that a mortar shell in your pocket or are you just exploding with joy to see me?”

I am fairly sure we backed out of the missile treaty after we found out the russkies were using their copy to wipe their butts.

Just sayin’

US backed out of that treaty because China is not a participant and for that reason it didn’t make sense to keep treaty.

Okay, but weren’t the russians routinely violating it as well?

Unlikely, but who knows. Based on cui bono principle they most likely didn’t.

He smuggled it out. According to related foreign news it was an actual mortal round with detonator attached but with explosives removed.

I’ve got a reason to believe that it wasn’t a mortar shell. Just saying I’ve seen things that defy logic. There are things that are similar to a small caliber mortar shell. Embarrassing “crap they searched my luggage” moment, saw it at the Hartford airport. Might not be the case but stupid things without malice sometimes happen. The XO almost had a stroke.

Whoever the embassy employee was, he does not appear to have been very bright. I wonder if the opposite would have happened here in the states what we would have done? I guess the Russians were fairly tolerant about this incident, confiscated it and sent this American dummy on his way back home. Probably would not be surprised if he was one of Mueller’s disciples or related to queen Nancy.

According to multiple news sources, the US State Dept has confirmed an employee who had completed his assignment in Moscow had a mortar that posed “no threat”.

Mortar=sex toy

Just guessing but no one seems too upset. As I’ve said I’ve seen it happen.

Why did it have traces of explosives in it?

Well, I think all concerned people are able to tell a mortar she’ll when they see it.

How would a mere mortar shell justify withdrawal from an intermediate range missile treaty? If you're going to smuggle something and risk violating such a treaty, at least smuggle a warhead from an intermediate missile...

‘’ ‘’ How would a mere mortar shell justify withdrawal from an intermediate range missile treaty? If you’re going to smuggle something and risk violating such a treaty, at least smuggle a warhead from an intermediate missile... ‘’ ‘’

A legit question. Should be addressed to Radio Free Europe.

It was someone’s desk ornament/paperweight. Probably had been carrying it with him for years.

It was a mine without explosives and still had a fuse. Dumbass. I worked with these people for eight long years and retired (stopped working before 55) immediately upon eligibility. I had 38 years of govt service, most or about 28 with DOD. If I had never became a member of our foreign service, I would still be working and happy with the people I worked with. When you work with lying self interested people who ALL THINK THEY ARE THE SMARTEST PERSON IN THE ROOM, it makes for a long day.
