Rep. Clay Higgins (R-La.) on Wednesday compared the influx of migrants at the southern border to the D-Day invasion from World War II.
The Louisiana Republican sought to put the threat of illegal immigration into context during a House Homeland Security Committee hearing with Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen when he invoked the June 1944 Allied invasion of Western Europe.
Let me just put this in context for the American people, Higgins said. Perhaps the most famous invasion in the history of the world D-Day 73,000 American troops landed in the D-Day invasion. We have 76,103, according to my numbers, apprehensions along our southern border last month.
We have D-Day every month on our southern border, he added.
Higgins was referencing Customs and Border Protection data released Tuesday that showed 76,103 migrants attempted to cross the border at ports of entry or were apprehended by border agents in February.
The congressman argued physical barriers and technology have proven effective in curbing illegal immigration, and he questioned why lawmakers have not been able to reach bipartisan agreement on the issue during the Trump administration.
Of course none of us want to separate families, he said. We as Congress, we have to fix the laws and allow these law enforcement professionals to do their job."
Nielsen testified Wednesday that the situation at the U.S.-Mexico border constitutes a humanitarian crisis and an emergency, citing increases in human and drug trafficking and violence. She defended President Trump's decision to declare a national emergency to secure funding for a border wall, a move Democrats have fiercely opposed.
Her testimony came a day after the government released data showing a spike in apprehensions and denials of people attempting to enter the United States in February.
Yeah but we invaded for good.
I’m sure that many Chi-coms poured down the hills during the Korean War in a given month.
In fact, my uncle said it looked like there was a never ending human horde.
BOTH parties have been pursuing a policy of non-enforcement for 30 years that has resulted in at least 30 million illegal aliens.
It has been the lifes work of Bush League Republicans to fundamentally transform this country.
They are not going to allow us to stop it, much less reverse it unless they are removed from office.
The only solution they will entertain is amnesty.
In 2020, these Senators must be replaced with patriots who side with the citizens and the rule of law:
Gardner, McSally, Daines, Collins, Cornyn, Capito, Enzi, Rounds, Graham, Tillis, Sasse, Hyde-Smith, McConnell.
I was very impressed with Representative Higgins during the Cohen hearing.
Obviously all this huge invasion coming from our southern border are coming to “liberate” the Americans held hostage by a repressive regime.
Hard to understand the strategy behind this invasion, or from whom they have chosen to “liberate” these tormented and benighted Americans.
Is there someone out there who may enlighten me?
(Oh, jeez, do I HAVE to include the “< /sarcasm >” tag?)
It annoys me when people here say “if you’re serious then...blah blah!!”
Folks like you and I that have been around a looong time and it’s obvious sarcasm, that gets my dander up when it’s taken seriously :)
But yes, minorities and women (though i think not even white women anymore) need to be freed from the oppressive clutches of EVIL WHITE MALES.
EWM for short.
We are the EWM.
It will the the title of a horror movie soon.
Of course none of us want to separate families, he said.
BS. That’s just pandering to tone down Democrat howls. I want the “families” separated. Lots of them are human smugglers. If they ARE legitimate families, I want to put the fear of God in them that they won’t ever be reunited. That should stop some of the flood.
More like the Wehrmacht invading France
They plan to take over
Let’s take a simple look at the issue.
At least 10% of all the legal citizens of Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala have moved to the United States illegally.
Emergency: an unforeseen combination of circumstances or the resulting state that calls for immediate action.
We could not foresee this foreigner rush to the border.
We have delayed action to correct the problem. The opposite of delay is immediate.
It is an emergency, has been for years, but we have been lied to and ignored by our political leadership that this is all somehow normal or expected.
I don’t want to separate families, I wanted them all together, in their own country.
Removing their relations will discourage them from coming here.
Many are joining illegal aliens already here.
Someone ought to explain to the clueless Congress that one million aliens heading to the border is a crisis in language that even they can understand just like you would talk to a 7 year old.
Its like adding a Denver, Seattle or DC every year, except with no infrastructure, and by people with virtually no education who cant even speak English. That doesnt even include the scare-factors of health and crime.
That sounds like an emergency to me.
