Actually, I think this diversity intiative is the result of emabracing post-modernism in academia. They totally reject Christian values. They posit that there is no universal morality or value systems. Thus, they are adrift in a sea with no moral moorings.
They know that this is not right. So they try to build their own moral compass from the ground up. And along the way, they require others to subscribe to their moral agenda.
Multi-culturalism, a tenet of post-modernism, insists that all cultures have equal values and we must not judge between them. (That, by the way, is how they get around being bothered by the human slavery sanctioned by the Muslims.)
The proper way to meet this is to force them to use their own postmodern tenets; i.e., since there are no proper criteria by which to judge other cultures, then WHY DO YOU SUBJECT ME TO YOURS?!?!
