California rail authority calls Trump plan to end high-speed rail funding 'rash and unlawful'

The California rail authority delivered a sharp rebuttal Monday to the Trump administration, saying its threat to cancel and rescind $3.5 billion in grants for the state bullet train project is “rash and unlawful.”

In two letters to the Federal Railroad Administration, state officials say they have not breached the terms and conditions of the grants and are making progress in building what would be a transformative passenger rail system.

The federal agency issued notice two weeks ago that it intended to terminate a $929-million grant issued in 2010 for the high-speed rail system and was exploring options to seek recovery of a $2.5-billion grant in 2009 that the state already spent. The notice asserted that the state had violated the terms of the grants, was not making adequate progress and would fail to meet a 2022 deadline to complete 119 miles of construction in the Central Valley.

Is anyone keeping count on the number of trees killed in this boondoggle? Lost spotted owls? Squished mountain yellow-legged frogs? Flattened kangaroo RATS?

Uh, wait.

Didn’t the cockeyed, lunatic leftist governor of California already cancel the project?

CA quit the high speed rail fiasco and now are complaining that Trump/the US government want the money back they’re not going to use?

Was the overage approved? Seems like the original budget for this boondoggle was approved but not the amount that exceeded the budget.

It’s mostly been California taxpayers getting run over by this high speed rail scam.

Not quite. They are complaining because they are not getting more money for the project that they already cancelled.

He certainly did. Looks like lots of people don't want to explain why giving back that federal money will pose a problem.

I guess these people didn’t get the memo. The leftist utopians in CA and around the country are seeing their plans and schemes crashing and burning all around them with some of their fellow travelers beginning to run for the tall grass now!

They cancelled the choo choo, ran out of their own money, and they still want other people’s money. Liberalism really is a mental disease.

Not exactly. Gavin Newsom is trying to spend all of the federal money before he ends the scam.

But the high speed rail program has been in violation of everything it agreed to do to get that money.

So with any luck, not only will Team Trump cancel any unspent federal money, it will also sue California to claw back all of the money spent while the project was in violation of what it had promised to do.

And Newsom and Xavier Becerra and all of the rest of the Sacramento Commies will really be howling in pain when that happens.

“Looks like lots of people don’t want to explain why giving back that federal money will pose a problem.”

Kinda the same problem Comrade DeBlabbio has with his wife pi$$ing away almost a billion bucks and not being able to account for it. I truly hope the Feds make CA pay back the money. It might hasten our state’s trip into bankruptcy.

Apparently ‘rash’ has indeed another new meaning.

‘rash and unlawful’, I guess that must mean insane, (oops, my bad).

Including the liberal Governor who started this railroad boondoggle, namely Arnold Schwarzenegger, the darling of the national GOP establishment.

The last I heard, they had scrapped the project but wanted the money anyway. Probably to pay for illegal aliens.

They’re complaining that the ‘other people’s money’ is being cut off. Socialists, spending money American’s refuse to do.
