"I’m going to stand up for what I think is unjust and unconstitutional to the American people, including those living in the state in Maryland.”
He added, “We’re gonna let them know that we are sick and tired of being penalized for Baltimore City’s inability to control crime. If these bills pass, we will not comply.”

I'm of the opinion that he who takes an oath to defend the constitution and violates that oath needs to face serious consequences..

The dirty secret is that Sheriff’s have ALWAYS decided what laws they would enforce and what ones they wouldn’t. I had the local sheriff tell me way back when the government banned those with misdemeanor convictions for domestic violence from owning guns that he would never enforce that law in his county, because, as he stated, “Some dude getting in a shouting match with the old lady is no reason to lose his 2nd amendment rights.”

That’s exactly where the looney left is going with their ‘Red Flag’ laws. They wrap gun confiscation in the same phony mantle of taking away your guns to protect you.

Sheriffs are not politically appointed, they do not work for the governor, they are elected by and answer directly to the people who elected them in the county for which they serve.

The political tables have completely turned around.

The left wants more strong-armed control, the right wants more Liberal governance.

The left is pro-CIA, pro-FBI and even CNN hired the ex-CIA director, who is trained in the dark arts of deception, and puts him on the air like what is says is the gospel truth; the right wants these agencies investigated for corruption and calls for an end to J. Edgar Hoover types of political targeting across all agencies (IRS, CIA, FBI etc).

During Vietnam the left stood as conscientious objectors.
Today, more and more LEOs are coming out as conscientious objectors to unlawful orders given from on high.

In California the state DOJ has a list of LEOs with a combined 10,000+ criminal convictions but the lefty state AG Bercerra threatens to jail anyone who publishes this information; meanwhile the NYT was free to print the Pentagon Papers.

You name the topic it is likely that left and right have turned the table around.

I love when Sheriffs tell legislators to forget about it

And this is why many blue states want to get rid of elected sheriffs altogether. They want all law enforcement to be fully controlled at the state level, where city folk can push their cradle to grave control on deplorable citizens like us.

This is a feature imo.

It concentrates power in the hands of the local gov, as it should be.

Sheriffs in rural Texas have always picked and chose the laws to enforce. If they didn’t they wouldn’t have a job for long.

" city folk can push their cradle to grave control ...."

If only, it didn't start until the cradle.

There is really no disconnect. The left during Viet Nam consciencely objected to engaging in a war against a Stalinist regime. Most claiming CO status either were physical cowards or were committed leftists. In a similar mind f*ck that the left is employing again, those who are law abiding and patriotic Americans are vilified as ‘haters’ and a long litany of phobes. During Viet Nam the left with media and academic support made draft dodging and rioting patriotic and effectively stigmatized law abiding and patriotic men as ‘Baby killers’ and ‘psycho-vets’ and poured endless hatred and contempt on the military, LEO’s and the security agencies. Now that the long march through the institutions has finally reached those organizations through infiltration the left sees them as allies in their war on normal Americans. It's the same war, the battlefield has now shifted radically against the normal law abiding hetero sexual patriotic Americans. More will follow,

In California they changed the long-gun law several times. Oh about a decade ago they made a law that you needed to use a tool to remove the magazine in a rife. This became known as the “bullet button” because you needed a tool shaped like the head of a bullet to release the magazine. You could literally use a bullet to do it, so it was stupid but not that much slower than a finger release.

Then the state decided that this was too easy, so they now require fixed magazines on long guns with various features. There is widespread non-compliance. Nobody but nobody except the most angelic law abiding people took their AR-15’s to the smith to have the bullet button replaced with a fixed magazine contraption that requires disassembly of the upper and lower receivers in order to replace the magazine. AND - you have to register them.

Of course, 10 rounds maximum in a magazine.

I could be mistaken but I think the law has been stayed pending litigation.

Ok, I’m going to say this:

It’s not okay to not agree to enforce the law, whether it is constitutional or not.

Why?

Because we are a nation of laws.

This applies to everyone. You can’t, as a legislature, because you have one party rule in your state, PASS LAWS THAT ARE UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

Chambers are doing that. As a result, LEO’s are pushing back. Governors of blue states are flouting federal law, then they expect the average citizen to abide by the laws their chambers pass that the people don’t agree with.

It is now out of control. Everybody in this is wrong.

Part of this has to do with the idiotic 60 vote filibuster rule too. Make it simple majority and move on.

This is getting out of hand.

***with a long gun licensing and confiscation law. ***

I still remember 1962, when Thomas J. Dodd and Emauel Cellar introduced a handgun registration scheme with the words..

“WE don’t want to take your guns away. We ONLY want to register handguns. Long guns will not be affected.”

They opened the damned door. So we’re just playing by their rules.

Always remember the Democrats have one rule... We win, you lose, shut up and sit down.

The hell with that.

Have a nice life.

***Sounds like a few states will be having an issue with sheriffs***

I remember 1989, when California’s sheriffs said they would not enforce California’s A-s-s-ault rifle ban as they had more important things to do.

Wonder if they still feel the same way.

Fair points. I still see some disconnect but ultimately you are correct for their ideology is unprincipled except for ‘the ends justify the means’. They can lie, spin, dissemble, and flat out turn their previous comments inside out without even missing a beat or blushing.

I miss the civil libertarian left. They have been crushed by the radical left including being flooded with hard-left money such that the civil libertarian groups are forced to kowtow to ideas that would be unconscionable a generation ago.

Book burning? Yes they are for it.
Speech codes? Yes they are for it.
Prior restraint for speech? Roger!
Punitive action against violators of dogma? Check.

And like I said, now they even love the tactics of the FBI and the CIA. The left was livid about FBI treatment of Dr. King. Falcon and the Snowman got going over CIA intervention in Australian elections. But today, the left cheer these same (worse!) tactics today - even cheering DOJ/US Intel interference in our own elections while running a fake witch hunt for Russian moles under our beds.

Screw ‘em. They are and have been totally dishonest. Remember the phrase “viability of the fetus”? That is what they sold us 30-40 years ago. Now, it’s not even in the public conversation anymore. They are open eugenicists. At least to some degree some of them are being more open about their Socialist/Communist/Command-Control desires. I can at least respect someone who fights for what they believe in. I can’t respect sniveling little dissemblers who think they are too clever by half. If Bill and Hillary said in 1992 “we have an open marriage” I might have even voted for them just for their honesty. But when he cried on CBS about his ‘one mistake’, only a jackass would trust him. I have no idea how many people died and how much money it cost in acts of aggression designed purely to get his many scandals off the front pages.

Obama campaigned to bring the troops home, then he went and sent tens of thousands of more and meddled around in many other countries.

I can’t stand them.

Had a dealing with someone that vacated california about 18 years ago because the state decided they should be felons. With out saying specifically, I can only assume they were talking the ass-salt weapons thing. Now they are fed up with the NEW politics in NV and are planning on bailing from here now. Sad dang state of affairs for sure.

Q: What am I doing crossing Maryland on I-81 with a gun in the car?

A: The Speed Limit!

Had a similar experience last July. Going back to Michigan, we unexpectedly crossed into Maryland for 15 minutes (with a Michigan CPL/pistol) and believe me, I was going the speed limit!

Our gov is one of the Never Trump RINO’s so I doubt he would sign it. If he was fully on board with Trump, I doubt that he would have been re-elected.
