The political operative at the center of an election fraud scandal that has engulfed a North Carolina congressional race was arrested Wednesday on charges of illegal ballot handling and conspiracy. Four people working for him were also charged.
Leslie McCrae Dowless Jr., 63, was accused of directing workers to collect and mail in other people's absentee ballots during the 2018 Republican congressional primary and the 2016 general election. It is against the law in North Carolina for anyone other than the voter or a close relative to handle a mail-in ballot, a measure aimed at guarding against manipulation.
Prosecutors are still investigating evidence of ballot tampering by Dowless and others working on behalf of GOP candidate Mark Harris during last fall's congressional election in the mostly rural 9th District, which includes part of Charlotte and extends eastward across several counties.
The indictment represents the first charges in a scandal that has cast doubt on election integrity and will leave a congressional seat unfilled for months. "These indictments should serve as a stern warning to anyone trying to defraud elections in North Carolina," state elections director Kim Westbrook Strach said.

Republicans arrested for what is standard practice for Democrats.
Conservative controlled state and local governments should start scrutinizing the Left’s voting irregularities more closely. Time to start playing hardball too.
That’s how they stole so many R seats there.
WHY is it they only catch or even investigate Republicans?
This is such an obvious set up, either by Pittenger or the Dems, but I suspect Pittenger.
1. Dowless was taken from an opponent’s primary, and used against Mark Harris who was completely ignorant of Dowless and his racket. This was done through the establishment group Red Dome. Little has been investigated about Red Dome.
2. The Bladen County Improvement Council (A Dem CPAC) not only educated Dowless how to do this, but when Dowless left in 2016, basically turned against him and organized a write-in campaign to get Dowless off of every public position he was in. Dowless then tried to get McCrory to help him sue Bladen County for irregularities, but then got shot down when McCrory realized he was a loon.
3. The Bladen County Improvement Council WAS TOLD EXPLICITLY NOT TO RUN THE ABSENTEE OPERATION IN 2018. Thus, they were exempt from scrutiny as all focus landed on Dowless.
Something’s fishy because this has been going on in Bladen for more than a decade (with lawsuits to prove it) and no one in the election committee has done a damn thing until now.
They hung cattle rustlers. The punishment was severe because the crime was so easy to get away with. So is ballot harvesting but a cease and desist instills no fear. Trump will have to win both houses of congress next time. Doable?
We need a republican attorney general to flip this guy for info where he learned these tricks. Bet he has lots of useful info on how the dems do this all over the country.
I think Trump is just waiting for Mueller. Once Mueller is done, there can be no accusation of obstruction of justice.
I think in mid March Mueller will submit the report, which will probably heavily redacted and then sent to Congress. Congress will fight for removal of redaction, and Trump will provide it...through declassified papers showing exactly how the intelligence community tried to set him up.
NC this is a crime, in CALI it is legalized fraud... NEVER FORGET THAT.

In Connecticut, it is legal for boys to win the state girls track meet.
In Texas, it is legal for high school boy wrestlers to grab girls wrestlers all over their bodies and not be charged with sexual assault.

Interestingly Enough - The fellow who was arrested filed a formal charge with the State Election Commission in the last election - saying DEMOCRATS did this in 2016.
And, it was those disputed votes put the Democrat Governor - Roy Cooper into office.
So now, the Democrats have arrested him for what he charged them with.
Republicans arrested for what is standard practice for Democrats.
