Mitch McConnell’s About to Betray the President
Independent Sentinel ^ | 26 FEB 2019 | S. Noble

Posted on 02/26/2019 7:51:41 PM PST by E. Pluribus Unum

Republicans in the Senate actually prayed the day the President was supposed to sign that absolutely awful spending-border bill. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell promised to support the President with a National Emergency Declaration if he signed the bill.

Well, that’s changed. Now McConnell isn’t sure it’s legal. It’s clearly legal since the Congress ceded that power in the 1970s for then-President Jimmy Carter. If they want to change it in the future, they should, but for now, it’s perfectly legal.

This is a very bad sign for the vote in the Senate to stop the declaration. If Republicans side with the Socialists against the President, what hope does this country have?

There are at least seven Republicans who are unhappy about the declaration and his comments could sway others.

Vice President Mike Pence rushed to the Senate on Tuesday in a last-ditch effort to convince GOP senators to oppose a resolution approved by the House that would block President Trump’s emergency declaration to build a wall on the Mexican border, the Hill reported.

Pence lunched with Senate Republicans hours before the House vote, but what he said afterward was not encouraging.

“I haven’t reached a total conclusion,” McConnell told reporters when asked for his personal opinion on the legality of Trump’s move.

It is not McConnell’s job to determine legality. A court can decide that. He should be sticking up for his President.

If McConnell does this, we should all put as much effort as we can into finding dirt on this POS.

He’s hedging. He doesn’t want to say it’s legal because he knows the next Dem president will do the same. And because he previously argued that Dem presidents can’t do this. But they did and they got away with it. Opposing the bill to quash it is one thing. What you say about the presidents action is another.

They left out the word “again” in the title. The authors fault.

Slimy as mcconnel is, I’m not going to believe that he is publicly going to betray his own proclamation until he actually does it. And if he does do it, I can’t believe he could win the 2020 election. But I have been known to be wrong when judging character of politicians.

Even if they muster enough Senate votes to override the veto, I don't think they can get enough in the House.

PLUS, this only effects a fraction of the total he is spending on the wall. The Emergency Declaration was only for a part of it. The other part (the majority) there is not a DAMN thing they can do to stop him.

backstabber

This is inexcusable. He supported Trump's emergency declaration in the well of the Senate and now he's not sure it's legal? What changed that you suddenly are going wobbly, Mitch??

It doesn’t matter what Mitch thinks. The House cannot over ride the veto and we are building the wall and it cannot be stopped under separation of powers.

Sorry, McTurtle is a worthless Uniparty POS and to allude to any other motivation is disingenuous.
