Senate OKs proposed changes to driver’s license system (NM Illegals to get standard license)
The Albuquerque Journal ^ | February 21, 2019 | Dan McKay

SANTA FE – The Senate overwhelmingly adopted legislation Thursday that would streamline the approval process for applicants who want the less stringent option offered under New Mexico’s two-tiered driver’s license system.

Supporters said the proposal, Senate Bill 278, would reduce confusion and make other improvements to the system – in which New Mexico offers one license compliant with the U.S. Real ID Act and a second option not intended for federal purposes.

The second option, now called a driving authorization card, would be renamed the “standard driver’s license.”

Senate Bill 278 also would repeal a requirement for some applicants to provide fingerprints when they seek the standard driver’s license or identification card.

“It just makes the whole process much simpler,” said Sen. Gerald Ortiz y Pino, D-Albuquerque, “and it should greatly reduce the number of constituent complaints directed at us.”

The Senate voted 31-9 in favor of the legislation, which now heads to the House.

Opponents said creation of the driving authorization card was part of a 2016 compromise aimed at preventing undocumented immigrants from obtaining licenses but still allowing them to drive legally.

“Now we’re going back on that,” said Sen. Mark Moores, an Albuquerque Republican who opposed the bill.

The two-tiered system was also intended to bring the state into compliance with the Real ID Act.

Hmmmm. A Hispanic-surnamed dummocrap state senator is in favor of this, and a non-Hispanic-surnamed state senator who is a Republican opposes it. Anyone see a pattern? And does anyone see the utterly ridiculous "reason" the Hispanic-surnamed guy uses? "...should greatly reduce the number of constituent complaints directed at us..." If illegal Hispanic criminal invaders are the ones doing the complaining ("It's too HARD for us to get drivers licenses so we can then illegally vote!"), then who cares? But this weak reed has to bend to that kind of wind.

Will we now be non compliant with the real ID Act? Need a passport to board a plane?

No. A couple of years ago, NM created a "Real ID-Act" license. All others got a "driving authorization card." They're renaming the latter as a "standard driving license" and making it easier to get. Real ID requirements remain the same. Simultaneously, other legislation will automatically make everyone who gets a license a registered voter.

NM bites the dust.

And they will all be so shocked and offended when sane areas of the US reject them.

Too bad.

So technically we are no longer the United States, right? Nothing united about us.

To renew my license recently I had to produce my passport,Social Security Card and proof of address.

Those are the Real ID requirements here in NM too. US citizens can use a certified copy of their birth certificate.

Can illegals get a driver's license in Massachusetts?

Illegals in New Mexico can use an identification card issued by the consulate of Mexico in El Paso Texas, Albuquerque New Mexico, or such other foreign consulate, or certified copy of foreign birth certificate, with a notarized English translation if not in English.

Thirty-one traitors in the New Mexico State Senate gave aid and comfort to the enemy.

The way to deal with states giving alien invaders drivers licenses is to inform the state that anyone holding these licenses and entering another state will be arrested and their vehicles seized.

We’re in a civil war ; let’s start acting like it.

So they are illegal but basically giving them valid driver’s licenses. This is basically another step towards amnesty. If they are illegal they should always be worrying they will be deported. Now the US is coddling these crim9nals.

In the Gay State (Massachusetts) passenger car licenses are good for 5 years. I think the Commonwealth just recently required the documents I mentioned for new applications and renewals.I assume it's connected to a Federal law that was passed a few years ago...can't recall what it's called.

>>>“and it should greatly reduce the number of constituent complaints directed at us.”<<<

Illegal Invaders are not Constituents of United States Politicians.

They are Constituents of the Politicians in their Home Countries.

In AZ you can get a valid driver’s license that is in good standing for 25 years.

So you can fly. In AZ, you can decide what kind of driver’s license you want.

The same rules apply to the citizens of California Cator.

I renewed last October and could not find my certified copy of my birth certificate.

I have it now and will have to go back to get the full license to be able to fly.

My grip is I had two expired passports with all the data, which has not changed, and I have the military veterans notice on my license. I had a veterans’s office employee enter all of the data, two years ago with my official birth certificate, valid pass ports and other VA data. None of that data was valid for the new all inclusive Ca. Driver’s license.

I'll assume that that's a rhetorical question. ;-)

On a related matter: a couple of years ago, knowing that I'd be out of state on Election Day,I went to Town Hall for an absentee ballot.I gave the clerk my name and asked if she needed to see my ID and she, with shock on her face, said "no!"

Surprised by her answer I asked how she knew I was even qualified to vote."Well, you sign an assurance that you are" was her answer."You mean anyone can get a ballot just by giving a name? Do you ask for ID when you register?",I asked.

"It's against state law for a government official to ask for ID when registering or voting" was her answer.

And for those court rulings about states not being allowed to set their own immigration policies.

No, it was not asked in jest. As I have posted, they can do so in New Mexico and it's becoming common in some other states as I understand (about a dozen to date).
