Unfortunately that is no longer true in our new and better Amerika. The supreme court has signed off on the legal fiction that these are different (state) charges is'a A-OK to try someone a second time for the same crime.

Personally, I think this kind of thing makes our government look like it's filled with a bunch of vindictive schoolgirls, not even considering what should be the Constitutional issues involved.

He pled to federal charges in VA & DC. These are state charges in NY.
