The Covington Catholic Kids Take the Gloves Off

Between the total collapse of the Covington Catholic story and the embarrassment of the Jussie Smollett hate hoax, 2019 has been a rough year for America’s embattled mainstream media.

Now, the hostility toward these supposed guardians of democracy that provided some of the energy behind Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign is about to get its day in court. Nick Sandmann, the 16-year-old Covington student who was accused of willfully intimidating the Native American activist Nathan Phillips at this year’s March for Life, has filed a defamation lawsuit against The Washington Post, requesting $250 million in damages.

The court filing, which is available online, is a fascinating read. My first question was how Sandmann’s lawyers came up with the figure of a quarter of a billion dollars, and the document duly provided an answer: it is “the amount Jeff Bezos, the world’s richest person, paid in cash for the Post…in 2013.” This lawsuit is not about Sandmann’s lost opportunities or mental anguish. It’s about “punish[ing], deter[ring], and teach[ing] the Post a lesson it will never forget.” That kind of rhetorical melodrama seems aimed at journalists, not judges. The goal, quite literally, is to take the paper for everything it’s worth, and make a big splash doing so.

Nor does the combative language end there. Sandmann’s attorneys accuse the Post of “wrongfully placing the anti-Trump, anti-Catholic, and [pro-choice] agenda over the harm its False and Defamatory Accusations caused to Nicholas” and of ignoring “contrary information in favor of its pre-conceived false narrative against President Trump and his supporters.” Sandmann’s name might be at the top of the complaint, but the attorneys who authored it clearly imagine their lawsuit is carrying the banner for every single victim of anti-MAGA discrimination.

If it is Kentucky and I think it is, they might as well start writing the check.

Nikolai Ceacescu would disagree with you ... :^)

I hope this is only the FIRST lawsuit of many to be filed.
GO AFTER EVERYONE WHO PERPETUATED THIS HOAX!!!!

*******************

There is a list of about 20 people/entities the lawyer is suing in this case. It pretty much covers everyone who defamed him including Ilian Omar.

“Weaponized hate” as Black SC Cong Tim Scott brilliantly described it.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

A relative (staunch Conservative) visited last Friday & was just shaking her head at the sheer hatred that the Left is exhibiting .... she couldn’t wrap her head around how they could consistently, day after day, generate such deep levels of hatred. My opinion & answer to her was that it’s beyond mere mortals to generate such black malice/evil/hatred ... the Left are the vessels/servants of the Devil & his Evil and that is from where the seemingly limitless source of vicious hate emanates.

Just an interesting graphic to show you what the Washington Post is up against:

These are the county-level election results from 2016.

Kentucky has 120 counties.

Trump won 118 of them. He won 82 of them with over 70% of the vote.

He won 25 of them -- mostly in eastern Kentucky -- with more than 80% of the vote.

A settlement only works if both sides agree to it. My hope is that Sandman won’t settle and carries this all the way through to the Post’s ruination.

Is an "elite university" the best place to get a great education? Someone like Sandman would be better off attending a really good Catholic college like Thomas Aquinas College or maybe some place like Hillsdale College.

Of course being the alumnus of an elite university is better if your goal is to be a politician or a CEO of a big corporation.

There is a side bet going on that a judge will rule against the kids and demand they pay up.

And yes, I am a pessimist.

The rag will settle to avoid discovery.

If it were me the price to shut me up would be $500 million. That would show how badly they want this to all go away. Make them feel that they'd be better off letting this go to trial.

The lawsuit was filed in Federal court — in the Eastern District of Kentucky. This might be the absolute worst place in the world for the Washington Post to be facing a lawsuit. They’d be better off with a jury comprised of Trump family members.

MAGA Bump! May it be so.

Covington is in Kenton County, Kentucky which is one of the pink ones at the very top of your map.

"The Mockingbird State Media pretty much ruined Sandman's chances of getting into any elite university, even if he has top grades and a 1600 SAT."

Oh, I'm sure there are sufficient elite Catholic universities that he will have no problem matriculating at. Some of them are even fairly conservative.
