I once had an employee from India.

He took a trip to return and when he came back he told me had a big surprise for me.

At lunch, he gave me a mango.

At that time, nor anytime since, had I ever tasted a mango.

But I was excited. I’m not afraid of new foods.

So I took a big bite of that mango and it was awful.

Awful, awful, awful.

Now understand here, you may quote me as hating mangoes, instead of knives.

My employee smiled as I chewed the awful stuff and tried to look happy and grateful.

I did manage to swallow and not vomit. I did not want to hurt his feelings. He meant well.

But know now that mango is evidently a taste you are born with.

which I was not.

He may have brought you a green mango which is just firm unripened mango. These are used in salads etc as the fruit is quite tart. The ripened ones are fantastic.

I don’t care for mangoes, either, but I’ve had mango sauce that was excellent. They seem to be like rhubarb. That takes a bit of preparation to become tasty.
