This is what I would do with my kids, especially if, because of my sex I could not go into the bathroom.

I would have them go in and tell me if anyone was in the bathroom. They would come back out and say no. I would stand just outside the door. When someone would go into the bathroom, while my kids were in there, I would open the door slightly every few minutes and yell, "Are you guys done yet?"

Worked like a charm.
